While Nico was leading us to our first CFP appearance ever that, by the Spring , Jarrett Guarantano would have a more favorable legacy in Vol Nation than Nico.

College Football has changed a lot since the Pandemic, and I frankly don't like the changes.

To be fair Nico wouldn’t have been a Vol if it weren’t for the current landscape. For better or worse.

I'm ready to start the debate on who should be the starter now! lol

Say what you want about Gitmo but the dude put a lot of heart into his play (and velocity on screen passes to the RB in the flat).

That's really not fair to JG to compare him to Nico. He lacked the ability to fully back the hype, and still gets railed for it. But he always seemed to be a good kid, and he did try his best for UT. Say what you will about him, but the fan duress he played under while here, gets him points in my book. Says more about the lack of a better option in the QB room than it does him.

Is they way Nico left worse then the way Lame left?

At least Lame addressed the media….

Jarrett Guarantano had to suffer through terrible coaching, multiple offensive coordinators and an o-line that darn near got him killed. He also did not have a running back on the level of Sampson. He didn't play well and a fanbase as passionate as Tennessee's will always have those that trash a player that could not get it done. It is natural that the animosity toward him faded a bit after a few years. He had a difficult situation and was not able to overcome it. Let's see how we feel about Nico in a few years. I think a lot of that depends on how he plays for whatever program he is going to and how he handles himself going forward. He certainly does not smell like a rose right now, though.

Just pointing out JG was the object of derision for quite some time among the Vol fan base, but he's got a much better case for being a VFL than that traitor who will no longer be mentioned by name.

This. The school took a major flyer on Nico by locking him up with what was considered to be a monster contract at the time. Swing and a miss, live and learn.

Plus he also played for 4 different OCs - not really an environment for success.

I thought George looked pretty impressive, but he is just a freshman. Hopefully, we can find a good QB in the portal.
I’m not sure why we are so afraid to play a freshman. Plenty of teams start freshman QBs. The freshmen QBs at Florida and South Carolina played very well last year.

JG is also the victim of being remembered for a handful of unfortunate mistakes. Pick sixes in rapid succession tend to stick in one’s mind. They are not reflective of his whole career
