So you are in a bar, a fight breaks out between a guy you hate and a guy you don't know, who are you rooting for?

I don't really care who wins, but I guess I will go for the Gators because they are an SEC team, but truly I don't care who wins.

I think even those of you who say you will root for Florida don't really mean that. If the game is tied with 4 seconds left you will find yourself hoping for a UCLA-buzzer beater. I have come to believe over the last week or so of reading the posts here that there is just so much disdain for Florida amongst UT fans, a palpable hatred born out of years of competition dominated for the most part by the Gators, that you just can't bring yourselves to see a rival do well, even if it has no effect on you at all. That's okay. I was mildly hoping for UT to do well in the tourney, but I admit that when they barely eeked out a "W" in Round I and then lost in Round II there was an "I told you so" thought or two that crossed my feeble brain.

One thing to bear in mind: A few years back FSU won the football national championship with only one regular season loss -- to Florida. Within a few days, there were many bumper stickers out there that said "Florida 27 National Champs 24" or whatever the score was. You guys could be missing out on a golden get in the craw of Florida fans.

I'd say you might be right Law about people when it comes to it pulling for the Gators I for one will not I've spent too much time on G. Sun board, gator country, or gator bait too pull for the Gators and if you've been there then you know a majority of them would not pull for us against Ucla Sec or not and that's just the truth don't feel bad I won't pull for Uga either.

Oh I don't feel bad at all. As I said before, I have come to the conclusion that who I root for has no effect on the outcome of the game. I am pretty sure the same is true of you, too!!! :biggrin2: :biggrin2:

Florida State has won two National Championships. In '93, 12-1, lost to Notre Dame. In '99, they didn't lose. No losses to Florida in either National championship season.

You may get your wish. Who knows?

I just don't see how anyone can think they know what is going to happen in this game. No one out here has paid attention to UCLA this year and no one out there was watching Florida. Both teams have peaked at the right time. Both have big men and shooting guards. Both have deep benches. Both are relatively young. Florida probably prefers a faster pace, but UCLA has shown it can do that, too. UCLA probably prefers a slower tempo, and again Florida has shown it can do that, as well.

The only opponent in common that I can think of is LSU, and both Florida and UCLA beat them soundly and by similar margins. By all rights the teams are evenly matched and if they played 10 times it would probably be a 5-5 result. Should be a close and entertaining game.

I suppose in the environment in which you are writing this, what you say is mostly true. Folks seem sometimes to be less inclined to civility when their chin is not exposed. :D

There are those who like to see the SEC do well against outside opponents.
Especially among the pros. This from a Chattanooga Free Press writer's account of Bruce Pearl while at Indy....

...Spying the Florida pep band a minute or two after that, he cheered "S-E-C..S-E-C.. S-E-C."
From high atop the portable bleachers on that side of the court, a Florida fan yelled down at Pearl, "Hey Coach, you're a great addition to the SEC!"

Pearl returned the compliment, saying, "You should be so proud of how Florida is representing our conference.".....

Good Luck tonight Law. Ya'll earned it. Now go enjoy it!

My sentiments exactly. I wish you guys luck, but don't expect me to break into the Gator chomp at any point. :D

Maybe it was Miami, then?

Given a choice between the lesser of two evils, I'll chose the Gators. Still probably won't watch.

Excellent. That was classy.

The coaches, I think, see things in a different way than we do. I know that Donovan this weekend has been talking about how his enjoyment in this moment is watching the UF players soak all of this in. He says he views his role as a coach in terms of translating on the court experience to real life lessons. He knows that a small percentage of these kids will make a living playing this game. And for those that don't, and even for those that do, his role is to teach them how to be good men. I really do think that the better coaches out there understand their role as educators. If you watch Donovan's demeanor, I do believe he gets it.

Now that's a good analogy.....

and it would be a lot harder to root for the Gators had we not swept them this season. Generally, i'm an SEC guy and will root for them if we're not involved. I would have rooted for LSU no problem if they were the only one....it does suck that the SEC has it's championship hopes pinned on the Gators....it's hard, very hard, to even consider rooting for them.

But, we did beat them. twice. I wouldn't mind being able to say we beat the NCAA champs, TWICE. And, hey, we also beat the NIT champs twice too....not bad on a resume.

So i'll root for the gators, mildly. I won't lose any sleep either way, i can promise that.
