Whos the best RB ever at UT?

I'm going to go with the previous poster and say I will give mine from a list I've actually seen play...

Fastest: Jay Graham, hands down, go back to the Alabama game when he got shot out of a cannon, time his 40 and come back to me and say it wasn't under 4.3.

Best: Jamal Lewis, power..speed..getting to the corner...he had it all, just ask all of those Georgia fans he bitch-slapped in 1997.

Favorite: Travis Stephens, why? He blocked, protected, changed his number, held back a year, blew up Florida's dbs like a M-80, all of this on top of his "Yes Sir" and "No-Sir" responses to post game interviews. Very humble. If it wasn't for our defense against Georgia in '01, Travis' rumbling stumbling screen pass for a touchdown would rank in my top 5 favorite plays. Alas....

I think the best and my favorite overall has to be Travis Stephens. First running back to not totally choke in the swamp and almost single handly beat the Gators that night with what 150+ yards?? that season was simply amazing.

I would also have to say Chuck Webb until the injury which i seen in person at the Pacific game of all teams. I also enjoyed watching James Stewart jump over those huge piles at the goaline for 6. Anybody know where he is now by the way

Little Man over the top! I loved that play! My friends and I all called it "Tennessee Jump". The ball would go inside the 5, and we'd start hollerin' for it. We ran it so much for a while there that everybody knew it was coming... and we'd still make it!

As for the best, I'll join the chorus for Jamal.
If we'd seen more of Chuck Webb, we'd all be saying his name hands down.

Travis Stephens is to Jamal Lewis and Chuck Webb as a Vespa is to a Maserati or a Ferrari.

jamal lewis never ran over the gators in the swamp. Doesnt Stephens hold the record for most rushing yards by one player in a season at UT?

i think alot of how we remember how good a player was is on their pro carreer, a career Stephens didnt have much of

That means nothing to me. Lewis was a major cog in 2 SEC championships and a National Championship. I'll take that over one win in Gainesville and some pretty individual numbers.

If success in Gainesville makes a back great, Jabari Davis is one of UT's best.

Best-Webb and Lewis too close to call. Henry and Stephens my 2 favorites.

but that was different, we hadn't won in the swamp since the 70's before Stephens was RB. All I am saying is even though Jamal lewis is a good running back, I personally feel that Travis Stephens was a better one.

Yeah, that's why Stephens never got off the bench while he and Lewis were on campus at the same time.

I've already said Jamal and Chuck Webb. But I ought to mention that to this day, whenever I picture a Vol RB in my minds eye, the vision I see is Johnnie Jones bolting down the sideline against Bama...

My favorite was Henry and Stephens. But Lewis before he was hurt was one of the most dominating backs I have ever seen at any school. Speed, power, size and hands. He could go over, around or through you or catch the ball. I wish he had not gotten hurt. I truly believe that had he stayed healthy we would have had our first Heisman winner.

That's a hard choice, I couldn't pick just one but my top 5 would be Jay Graham, Little Man Stewart, Travis Henry, Travis Stephens, and hopefully one day Arian Foster.

Everyone on the board knows how I feel about Jamal Lewis. That said, Chuck Webb was easily the best running back in UT history.

You sir, are correct. It is a shame he blew his knee the way he did.
