Who's the Racist in this Exchange?

Its the invoking of that old standard by Newt to raise the hackles of the bigotted on the right that pisses us off.

Educated liberals understand that the perception that there are a disproportionate number of black people on food stamps is because there are a disproportionately high number of black people who are poor.

The audience Newt aimed that comment at can't get past the initial observation, and use that observation to feed their impression that black people are lazy, undeserving of assistance, and a drain on their tax dollars.

Invoking that connection to Obama was the point of saying it. Its the same tired "He's out to help black people at our expense" theory which underlies roughly 2/3 of the entire GOP attack on him since day one.

It plays great to the people paying attention to GOP presidential politics at the moment.

so let me get this straight. your argument is that they make that connection because they KNOW the GOP people are racists and can read their minds? so you agree that the democrats are the ones bringing up the connection first.

Lawgator a few questions about disproportionate impact:

Do you feel that affirmative action should continue to punish Asians for being Asian?

Do you feel that federal jobs should continue to be given to African Americans at incredibly higher rates than any other groups? Why a government shutdown would hurt blacks more than most

When someone wants to shut down government, or dismantle government or reduce pensions, are you going to accept that it is their ideology that government should be smaller or will you play the race card?

It doesn't take Kreskin to figure out what Newt was driving at.

How are Asians "punished" by affirmative action?

If you mean that otherwise qualified or even superior applicants for slots at school or at jobs are negatively affected by the fact that a minority candidate is given points for being in a protected class, your observation isn't about "punishment." Its that there is a protected class and society or a given institution has chosen to make that mean something.

You can debate the wisdom of that choice.

But when you use the word "punishment" you mistakenly imply that the purpose of an affirmative action decision is to hurt someone, which is incorrect.

so you seriously think his point was that blacks are lazy? not obama doubling funding for food stamps?

I can't say based on the comment that he was arguing that. I can say that he was spooling up those in his audience that he knows think that way, thereby associating himself with the cause to get the black guy out of office before he gives away the store.

why does it have to be the "black" guy giving away the store? the republicans didn't have the same problem with that whitey carter?

So an Asian being turned down for medical school because his scorer is not enough better than a white guy is not punitive?

When you give preference to someone on a basis other than merit, the individual who is missing out on that characteristic is absolutely being punished.

Affirmative action is evil. It is seeking to correct racism by being racist. Just how evil it is can be readily observed when you realize it punishes Asians for as a group having better grades and test scores than whites. There is no historical oppression to justify it.

Racism is evil.
David Duke is evil.
L. Farrakhan is evil.
Both racists
