Why are expectations so high for next year

I don't have high expectations as far as wins go, but I do expect to see of the field troubles decline, more swift and more harsh penalties for violaters, and a return to disciplined team football.

Yet, I do think that those 3 things, which are a given at some schools, are still high expectations. I'm hoping they become a part of the norm every season from now on.

I watched every game except the Memphis game. I only saw them lose to 2 superior teams in my opinion, Georgia and Notre Dame. The rest of the year was everything that could go wrong did, from fumbles in the red zone, penalties, generally bad play calling, and crummy play from the offensive line. The key, in my opinion, to this disaster, was the offensive line. They sure made life rough for the QB's. They are much better than they showed. For instance, today I watched Kentucky run screen passes. Their o-line executed them perfectly. On the few we tried, the o-line stood around keeping their thumbs warm.

Next year I expect line play will be be much better, a new OC means better play-calling and improved quarterbacking. Add to this, a good recruiting class and finally Foster and things pick up tremendously. It looks like Riggs' injury was the best thing that happened to us. I don't expect a SEC title next year but I do expect at least 7 wins, which after this year, is high expectations. I think the SEC title comes year after next.

wasn't aware of 12 regular season games... 8-5 (with a bowl game), 9-4, if the breaks really go our way, 10-3. Any worse than 8-5 and Fulmer is toast. Bank on it.

I think the three things that will bring us back are LEADERSHIP, CONSISTENCY, and DISIPLINE, this is not a surprise to anyone here . We have a back in Foster that reminds me of Regie Bush. Ainge showed a little promise yesterday, and if he has the right QB coach could be great. He needs to be a leader, we will see if he has it in him. CPF knows his job is on the line it's DO or get the hell out of Knoxville for him. I'm willing to give him one more year to turn it around. I have not given him a fair shake this year as a fan, I'm waiting to see him open up the play book and unleash, lets challenge him to do that, get rid of this coservative crap and playing to the level of your opponent, run up the score on a team the fans are starving for it. Just my thoughts, can't wait till next year to see ( hopefully I won't be deployed and can see more than 2 games ). Till next year GO VOLS.

I could see a potential for 5 losses. But Tenn normally can pull 1 or two of those out and when you get BIG MO on your side there is no telling what might happen. Ill go with 3 losses, and please let one be to the DAWGS.

We normally arent that good with a true fresman QB. Manning went 8-4, C. Clausen went 8-4, Ainge/Schaeffer went 10-3. Both Manning and Clausen had good sophomore seasons 11-1, 11-2, and Crompton i is a redshirt freshman not a true freshman like they were.

As poorly as Ainge played this year (5-6), I suspect Crompton starts and we go 8-4. The big question mark is how bad is Crompton shoulder injury and can he make a full recovery.

Someone previously mentioned if he had been a baseball player that injury would have ended his career.

Peyton Manning
1994 8-4
1995 11-1
1996 10-2
1997 11-2

Tee Martin
1998 13-0
1999 9-3

Casey Clausen
2000 8-4
2001 11-2
2002 8-5
2003 10-3

Ainge
2004 10-3
2005 5-6

Given the history of Fulmer against Richt, I would say that it's almost certain one of those will be to UGA.

Let' see how the offseason and spring practice plays out. I'm just glad this year is finally over.

If we would have had Cut as O/C this year, we might be in the BCS. Cut coming in, 10 wins isn't too far fetched. UT has played UGA better in Athens than Knoxville of late. Any breaks or offense at all this year (and of course discipline was MIA).

Until UT gets better coaches, look for UGA, LSU, UA, Auburn & USC to kick our behinds most years.

Thank goodness Coach Miles & LSU looked like complete idiots in the second half of our game this year. Otherwise just think what our record would be. And maybe be thankful U. of Memphis was without one of the best rb's in the country in our matchup.

Because we are the Tennessee Volunteers, and an undefeated National Championship every year is what is expected.  :birgits_giggle:

This is what fans do, hope for the best. I'm tired of being depressed thoughout the football season, I might as well be positive during the months of my life that don't matter (dec-aug).

6-5 at best.

Losses:

Cal
Florida
UGA
LSU
USC

Toss-up = Bama (determines 5-6 or 6-5)

UT SHOULD win the rest.

The schedule for next year is looking tough at this point and time.

Potential trouble games:

1.) A Cal team that will have Nate Longshore back should be efficient on offense.

2.) At Georgia should I say any thing more? I am still ticked off that Keyon Whiteside bit on the play action on the goal line in 2001 against Georgia!

3.) LSU at home should be interesting.

4.) South Carolina, where Spurrier is King, is a toss up. Who do the Vols actually lose to? Spurrier or his football teams, if that makes any sense whatsoever?
