Why are we losing so many receivers?!?!

Better hope the staff does a better job of flipping the WR room than they did the DB room! The DBs didn't fair well vs good passing teams! That was probably the biggest reason for the 3 Ls as well as Banks lack of pressure on the QBs in those three games!!!
Alot of the passing woes on defense this year is on that LB core. McCoy is good, Gibson will be good aswell.

Its either WR screen or go routes. We aren't utilizing them enough across the middle of the field or creating plays for them to run after the catch. Heupel's scheme was largely limited this year by opposing defenses and our passing game was below average.

With the news that Squirrel White is going to the portal we gotta ask ourselves why this is happening and how are the coaches gonna address it? It's getting bad.
None of those WRs outside of the freshman are going to the NFL. Bru is not the same since his injury. The rest very very average. We need more slashers and quick burst receivers that can get open. We still have no one in the portal that that we haven’t recruited over.

Wow, if true it was a hell of job to get this team to the playoffs. Raise and extension time.

Pretty sure that was your intent with this post RIGHT.

because the position coach is bad at his job and the offense isn't generating opportunities for receivers.
We have clearly seen a drop off at the development of new receivers. I have been biting my tongue on this all year. I dare say we may be eyeing the same at running back, OL, and whatever impact Golesh had on the offense. Sampson was not a product of Sims IMO. He already has Mack’s fingerprint on him, and he was his own man by 2024.

This is where newer coaches often nose dive. Heupel is 10x the coach Butch Jones was, but I’m not sure the collective is as good at recruiting. Still, Butch’s black book was either full of people who didn’t want to coach for him, or it simply wasn’t as full as he made it seem. It didn’t help him that the AD wouldn’t spend on a good strength & conditioning coach when we lost our guy.

Heupel hasn’t made silly comments about his extensive network, but he seems to promote from within a bit. I liked the Inge hire, and he had some solid guys to begin with, so he seems to be able to make good hires. I just think he has missed in some areas.

I can’t help but wonder if Heupel has a loyalty complex after being burned at Oklahoma. I like that he has held his staff together in order to maintain continuity, but if we have another year at OL like we did the last two years (the last being the worst yet), he has GOT to make a change there. Same goes for WR. Our defense got toasted as well against OSU. We still have to continue to get better there, which we have at every position, every year since that staff has been on board.

I will say this, we are going to be mostly sophomores and juniors next year with mega loss along both lines. I don’t expect next year to be a great year. Georgia will probably still beat us at home, and we have Bama and Georgia away. Bama will be in its second year under their new coach, and on a mission after not making it to the playoffs. Florida found their QB and looked much better toward the end of the season while barely losing to us in Neyland.

I have to say that I have more expectations for 2026 than I do for next year. We will be stacked if we don’t lose too many guys in 2026. This includes our DBs, RBs, DL, OL, WB, RB, WR, TE and even our punter and Turbyville. They will both be RS seniors who have already made a big difference. It will be big if they stay.

Heupel has surprised me two years out of his first four, however. So, the above are simply concerns I have had throughout the year. I can see him bringing back all that young talent next year, pulling in some transfers and surprising me once again next year. Those are the type of surprises I enjoy.

None of these receivers are upgrading in program. They are leaving for playing time. They know they are being passed by Matthews, Brazzell and Staley. CJH has never gone deep in his WR rotation, so they know playing time is limited for them. Every 4 or 5 star believes they will be able to beat out whomever is in front of them so they will keep coming for awhile.

All the receiver recruits the last 2 yrs were coming based on the 2022 offense. With this last season leaning heavily on the run guess several had seen enough that the 2022 offense was a one yr thing and they wanted more passes than blocking down field.

Isn’t Heupel responsible for the WR on the roster?
Yes. That’s why they are being encouraged to leave (my assumption). They were not good enough, so Heupel is fixing that for next year with better players. That’s what a great head coach does - make the roster better and improve deficiencies.

The DBs were really, really good this year. We had one of the top defenses in the country. They were horrible the year before, so that was a massive turnaround upgrade.

Teams picked on our LBs mostly in big games (especially UGA). We have one of the top CBs in the country now.

Well said. I thought I might be the only one not calling for anyone's job. I think Elarbee and Pope need to show us something next year, though. We're about all our of inherited players from Pruitt and the portal alone isn't sustainable. They each really need at least a 1 or 2 of the players recruited out of HS to make a significant impact.

Folks. I don't mean to sound like Dad here. But, the sooner we all come to grips with the transfer portal + NIL era, the better. This is gonna happen EVERY season by and large. Two years ago, we were an anomaly and kept nearly everyone. That is the exception and NOT the rule tho.

These young men have basically no restrictions on transferring. But, they have an OPPORTUNITY to make money like they've never seen in their lives. Even if they go to the portal they can come back in most cases. So, with all the tampering and stories of fellow 19-20 year olds making bank in the portal, they're gonna test it. Yes, much of it is a hoax and a pipe dream, but they still have a chance without much downside. A large number of these young men come from homes without proper leadership, therefore wisdom is lacking and often education too. It's a free for all and is happening nearly everywhere. No ... most don't bleed orange. They are susceptible to a "higher paying job" at another company. There are gonna be a lot of tricks and scams, but they are looking to better themselves just like you and I.

So, in summary, can we not jump off the ledge every time someone posts an emoji on IG or announces going into the portal? Can we just TRY to enjoy the chaos that is not happening here differently than most other teams. We are not gonna know who's on our team until July ... so relax and get used to it.
