From NY, grew up ALWAYS seeing them on CBS for college football, didn't have a college football team when I was 10...just went for it. Decided to follow their basketball team as well, which started in the Buzz era. Not many Vol fans from NY, always funny when I have to try and explain it lol

I love VOl fans that live in Ala Bammer! Can be tough in the lean years but had to be fun in the mid 90's and early 2000's. Keep the faith, the "tide" will turn again my friend. WHen I was growing up I thought we would never beat them until finally in 1982, it happened and we ran off 4 victories in a row.
Its tough these days, but I still give them hell! I remember moving to tuscalooser in 99...alabama sucked and there wasnt a big red A in sight,no car flags or magnets. Now they are everywhere. Some fans they are. Ill never lose the faith. I love my VOLS and always will...win,lose,or draw. VFL GBO!

Now that Mizzou is in the conference stuff changes.

Why do you drink...why do you roll smoke...why must you live out the songs that you wrote? It's a family tradition.

Because I was born and raised in Tennessee. My dad was a Vol fan and raised me to be the same. I tell anyone that is a casual football fan, go watch a game inside Neyland and you will be die hard orange till the day you die. Also, I was born with this thing inside me that makes me hate bammers and gators and being a Vol multiplies that hate by a million. GBO VFL V,B

ya, same here..... While we went to a lot of games growing up. I'll always remember the cool fall Saturdays cutting wood with my Dad and John Ward on the radio.
VFL.....

I wish everyone knew how annoying UK fans are. I think they are worse than Bammers and gators. Seeing blue everyday makes me want to throw up. I will always have orange blood run through my veins. I am/will never be ashamed to wear my orange. I've worn it in Rupp/Commonwealth several times. Been called a "Volenqueer" walking up to commonwealth. Had bourbon and popcorn poured on me when we beat UK in overtime the last year we won in Lexington at commonwealth. They are classless and I just can't stand them!!

Even though I live in the heart of ACC country, have never liked any of those teams and never was into college sports. That all changed when I met my husband, who was born and raised in Tennessee and his blood is orange. I have seen it. When I met his family was pretty much told I would pull for the Vols. I experienced my first game in Neyland in 2006 and was hooked. I love all the traditions and nothing compares to the team running through the "T". I never thought that I would own anything orange, but wear it all the time with pride. We were married in Vegas (during a bye week) and I carried orange flowers and the husband wore an orange tie. The SEC is pretty well represented in my office and they hate to see me coming. I talk all kinds of crap to the USC, GA, Vandy, Florida & Auburn fans I work with. It's great to be a Tennessee Vol!

I hear this question a lot since I live so close to Lexington. They say you live in Kentucky so why would you go for another team. To the people in Knoxville do you like Tennesse because you live there or are there other reasons? People like me that don't live in Tennessee, what made you like the Vols? I was raised up right in a Vols household that's why I am. This may not be basketball related, if not mods move it please. Go Vols!

Mom (born and raised in TN) and grandmother (lives in TN), plus grew in AL around really annoying bama fans which made it easy not to like them.

I can agree with this 100% since my family is full of Kentucky fans. Still annoying when they wear tons of UK gear when coming into TN, yet whenever I wear orange up there they will not shut up about it. Even though they do have the right, I suppose, they get really really loud during basketball season to an extremely obnoxious level.

Because you all stole our coach!

Ok, a little harsh but that is why I've started following Vol basketball

I was born in Tennessee, wouldn't pull for Alabama or Georgia like alot of bandwagon jumpers around here do. I have orange blood and will always have I don't care how bad we are. Most of the people that have bama or uga stickers on their car probably couldn't even tell you who their qb is. Have been watchin UT football since the Andy Kelly days. Vaguely remember UT beating Miami in the sugar bowl. I'm a Vols fan because I love Tennessee, the state the people the mountains and especially the women. we are ORANGE and Florida sucks.

I grew up in Knoxville and my dad was taking me to games when Gen. Neyland was coaching. Spent 6 years at UT and am a proud alumnus, having been president of my county's alumni association at one time.

I knew many of the greats and not so great players and coaches and became friends with several, still am.

With all that, the traditions of UT mirror the spirit of the people of Tennessee and their great heritage. We're true Volunteers; we don't back down; we love our freedom and independence; and importantly, we believe in ourselves.

With that, how could I not be a VOL fan?

Dick:)

I'm a Vol by choice, not by birth. I fell in love with the orange and white at ten years old when my feet hit Tennessee soil. I didn't abandon my old teams (Michigan and Clemson); I just found a better one to dedicate every fiber of my being toward rooting them on Down the Field. Do I still root for the Wolverines and Tigers? Sure, if they don't play my Vols! I may be a Rocky Top transplant, but I'm all orange now!

Living here in Lexington I get that alot as well. I was born in Kingsport, moved to Ky during the high school years and what's equally damning is that I'm a UK graduate. But as my grandfather once said, "son being a Vols fan is something that just doesn't wash off ya."
