Why Barnes!?!?!

The problem as I see it is that there are too many bench players who cannot play at this level. I am afraid that Barnes has given scholarships to guys that should be walk-ons at best. Guys who can't hold their own when called upon to rest starters. Guys who can't elevate their game no matter how much coaching you give them, not next year or after. Barnes makes a connection with some recruits that he thinks are easily coachable, but he would do better to find more athletically gifted recruits that may be a little rusty on the edges but have far more upside athletically. Sure, they may need more attention and mentoring but you can take pride that you have taken some inner city tough guys and positively turned their future. Look at Nate Oats roster and you won't see scholarship players from Bearden High. You can't recruit soft players for the post positions and play in this league.

Barnes has shown he can recruit players the last 2 cycles. He just needs to go farther out and stop offering schollies to guys who are just physically challenged for this level of competition. And I know that he should be able to find some deadeye shooters just like Pearl and Oats can. An old dog can learn new tricks if he allows himself to. He's brought in a couple of highly ranked guards and a forward who hasn't played yet. Just move some of the players along who you have seen can't contribute and bring in some muscular athletes who can rough it up in tough games, and even in practice where they can assemble the mindset of a physical team.

I don’t think that Pember was recruited to be a back-to-the-basket post player.

The COVID has hurt development and coaching them up. The teams with more upperclassmen have an advantage at this point of this season. We have 2 experienced upperclassmen. 11 of 13 players are in their 1st or 2nd year.
