Why can't Pearl find someone to put ball in basket?

Boom, really? Look at the luminaries that light that list of 20. It's even more impressive. Follow that with the fact that we're now likely to take 4th in our sorry conference and let me know about some boom.

Don't kid yourself.

The list of programs that have won 20 is illustrious and distinguished.

I like the guards Pearl has been able to get to UT, but he's trying to turn 2 guards into PG's. We need a solid CJ Watson type PG. Don't know much about the new recruits, but are any of them true PG's?

Neither of them would be considered "true" point guards. McRae is a pure scorer. Golden has been listed as a point several times, but his official listing is SG and he has stated before that he would rather play SG.

But I do not know the mind of Bruce Pearl, and I'm just stating this from an outside view point. There are others here that have more extensive knowledge of your schools recruits.

I'm pretty sure Bruce lit a fire under Scotty last night having him come off the bench. With that being said, we can't afford for him to sit while Steve Pearl stands at half-court because he'll screw up any play. With Steve in it's 4-on-5 offensively.

I found myself wondering for the majority of the second half how you win 20 games when there are no prolific scorers on your team. Sure Hopson was supposed to play that role, that didn't happen. Sure Chism can put up 20 every now and then. But there is not one consistent offensive player on this team and I think that is what separates UT from being a great team. In no way am I trying to berate the job the team has done getting to 20 wins; I think they have played great defense and deserve it. However, not having a consistent scoring threat has and will plague the Vols as the move into the offseason. It is too easy for an opponent to sit in a zone and make UT beat them by making shots.

I think were honestly recruiting the wrong guys. The only guards that get love at the college basketball and pro basketball level are lanky athletes that slash to the basket. This however remains irrelevant when I believe that some of the best college guards have been undersized 3-point shooters (ie lofton, watson, smith). This is what we need to be recruiting. Not the "I'm just trying to play for one year and then go to the NBA" type of players.

Every year his guards are great bust. Lofton and Watson were Peterson guys. Pearl has to do something with Harris, McRae, and Golden next two years or.........I'm just saying. I know what Pearl has done for our program and much respect, but he inability to get guards blows my mind. He desperately needs two - three shooters.

Its obvious Bruce can't coach shooters look at his son SP, he's had his whole life to help him develop a shoot and his form is bad and is worst shooter I've ever seen put on the orange & white. Maybe CBP isn't much on shooting.

I agree. He doesn't recruit shooters as such. He'd never have recruited Lofton. What makes it stranger to me is that the guys he signs are considered "athletic" so you'd think he was building a group to run the press, but that isn't the case either. The new guards coming in are considered "scorers"; they may be able to shoot, but who knows, and it's doubtful they'll be able to run the press.

You are right, he can't coach shooting. Neither can any other coach. You can either shoot or you can't shoot. If you could coach good shooters, everyone at the collegiate level would be good shooters.
