Why can't we hit free throws?

I could understand one or two players on a team having free throw problems... but almost the whole team struggles. Heard an interview with Stokes, he was talking about how hard they focused on free throws in practice, and how all you have to do is have the "right stroke". We usually play close games...we could potentially lose multiple games because of such a simple thing. Cool story to be sure, but it's frustrating as well.

totally frustrating loss. That was very very lame on offense, Still like Pearl. Can't stand this style

That was the worst college BB game I have ever seen. I had a pretty positive outlook for the team but we just shut down on the zone. We couldn't do anything. Pretty disappointing.
It's going to be a long season unless we learn how to play offense.

Just lost a 1 point game and left 8 points at the FT line. I said earlier this team would lose 3-4 games this season due to FT shooting. Here was #1.

We had no inside presence. I blame that just as much as all those misses free throws. Georgetown's length really bothered us.

Would it be possible to bring Pearl back after his show cause is up, I think after next year?

8th grade girls can make better free throw pct than these guys -- 500 FTs a day per player until it picks up - right Bobby Knight

To heck with that. When I played we had to hit 10 in a row as a team or the entire team ran suicides until we did

More games are lost at the free throw line than for any other reason. Red Auerbach would not play a man who couldn't hit 70% from the free throw line and it shows why.

We would not be able to play 5 players with Auerbach's rule. Scary isn't it?

There is a fundamental way to shoot free throws--and if you practice the fundamentals of the free throw, which are easy, there is no reason not be a decent/good FT shooter. But coaches nowadays don't seem to emphasize the fundamentals--these kids take their street instincts to the line, step up and shoot with bad form and the result is predictable: CLANG! The great coaches of years past would be appalled.

Stokes, even though he didn't take that many tonight, is a real liability at the free throw line. Really bad last year, seems more of the same this year.

Are you joking? Some guys just aren't good FT shooters. Fundamentals do play a part in this, but you can't make bad shooters great FT shooters through coaching. The only way you become a good FT shooter is to practice them over and over. I don't care how you shot them just find a routine and practice it over and over and over.

Did you go to Lenoir City Middle School as well. Towards the end of practice, we had to do something similar. We ran a suicide, then shot FT's as a team. Ran another suicide, shot FT's. on and on. As a team we had to hit 70%...in middle school.

Because we don't have a single player that is capable of shooting well consistently.

We need to recruit players with better offensive skills, then teach them how to play defense.

Sometimes even that's not enough. I could have picked any number of things to complain about from this game, but free throws are the thing can plague you an entire season or career. You change up offense/densive schemes, but free throwing has potential to hit hard over the long term jmo

Cost us a game tonight. 2-11 FT shooting at any level beyond elementary school is pathetic and embarrassing. Hope it improves or we'll be a .500 team this year if we're lucky

I was not able to see a whole lot of the game. But like last year, this team struggles when they play a good zone. Don't understand why we can't teach how to break a zone. It's rather simple. Some nights you just don't play well offensively, but I am afraid this team will have more than a few. Maymon really hurts us.

I guess it would be possible. Not sure how people would feel about that , but it is certainly an idea. I am super upset, but I am hoping the worst is behind us now and maybe, just maybe, we can learn to shoot free throws, keep the D, and change to a better motion offense, and for pete sake feed Stokes the ball, even if his is double teamed. Need McRae, Golden, Mcbee to score most of our points I guess

Wasn't that bad.
We shot 16% from the line in the second half.
