No doubt great college coaches develop their talent, adjust their systems according to the talent and most importantly win often. Perennial power houses differ in one aspect they are consistently winning in Feb.

The talent is there, it was just misused last season.

The last four recruiting classes have seen the Vols get (using rivals.com data):
7 (5*), 35 (4*), and 48 (3*), including 2 top-5 classes.

Georgia has had 1 top-5 class in that same time period, with 4 (5*), 50 (4*), and 38 (3*).

LSU also only has 1 top-5 class, with 7 (5*), 49 (3*), and 34 (3*).

Alabama has only 1 top-5 class, with 5 (5*), 47 (4*), and 52 (3*).

Florida has ranked in the top-5 the last three seasons, with 12 (5*), 53 (4*), and 25 (3*).

Good post. i just wish some others here would learn patience. After the last 10 years I can wait for Kiffin to get it all together.

I am going to figure out how to autokey this phrase, "Look at the depth chart". If Phillips signs with UT, he WILL play this fall and could start. Same is true of a quality CB which UT is getting and WR. Oku or another good RB could even start.

To pass on UT, these guys are saying "no thanks" to the opportunity to play as Fr and perhaps start.

Even if they weren't going to help this year... they'd be the main guys in '10. That's why I'm so concerned.

As sick of I am of hearing excuses about Tennessee football, I feel this is a completely valid excuse. And as much as I hate the dreaded "wait til next year" speech, we need to just wait til next year. Trust me. We WILL have a top five recruiting class next year and for many years to come.

Yes they obviously do think it is a big deal. They used it as a selling point with Hall on his visit. He mentioned it in his post-visit interview.

If someone has a different way to "fill out a roster" than signing recruits... I'd be interested in knowing what that is.

Weather top 5 or top 20 makes little difference. Do we sign what's needed is the difference maker. I would take a 15 class over a 5 if that 15 class had the top 4 offensive linemen in the country and the best 2 def linemen. Top 5 rated skill players will come if line is awesome.

I would imagine that UT's recruiting efforts are hectic this year. As CLK say's, they are two years behind on this recruiting class. Where ever we land this year is OK by me. The tracks are being laid, the inroads made and the future is bright.

Next Year.......Next Year........Next Year Let's see what happens!!! Hopefully Kiffin will develop the talent that we already have and we will have a great season. It just bugs the crap out of me seeing Auburn get a head start when we had more time than they did.

I may be wrong, but wouldn't that make a class an almost automatic top 10?

If they were... Auburn would be having the same problem. In fact, their staff took a weaker class and are being projected top 15.

I don't want this to be true. I have nothing against CLK... but truth is truth whether we want it to be or not.

Ask Fulmer he knows thats why he is at home jobless right now.

First.. I totally agree and people should chill out with the negativity. With that said, I do think its amazing that Auburn has been able to get some of the guys they have. It is a tribute to Troop and we totally should've gotten him on this staff.

I'm tired of the "I just need one more year on top of the ten I just got" excuse. The "I've only had 2 months to take a 7 loss team to the top" excuse still works for me.
