Why did we slow down rocky top?

We need to quit playing the song...period!! The song makes us look like a bunch if HILLBILLIES!! Never liked it and probably never will. How can anybody get fired up to that hillbilly music??? We play it an average of 164 times per game so I can imagine many people getting burned out on it.

Well, you do realize that the citizenship of East Tennessee IS predominantly "a bunch of hillbillies?" And I say that proudly, myself being one despite having left home many years ago.

And, the tune hardly sounds like "hillbilly music" being played by a 200+ piece marching band. The arrangement that as become the tradition offers the same straight-four, driving style that most all college "fight songs" are played in. It isn't as if the POTSMB is whippin' out the banjers and tha fiddles.

That's blasphemous. You're not from around these parts, are you?

In all honesty, UT's band is not as good as it was in the late 90's IMO. Are circle drills, which we always do against bama, will probably not even be as good as bama's band.

Are you crazy?

I remember sitting in the student section when Bama's band played. I watched as they basically just stood there. Then there was a problem with the mic and we got to listen as one trumpet player played loudly...and BADLY.

I spent the whole half time laughing my ass off. They couldn't even play on key!

Lol. The woo started when I got there. I know the guy responsible.

It didn't really catch traction until '97-'98. Not sure when you were there. I attended nearly every home game from '85-'98 and that's when I recall it starting. It was barely noticeable in the '98 UF and somewhat around for the NC game in Tempe that year.

It's very prominent in the recording I'm a part of.
