Why didn't Dools hire Tee?

Hopefully Tee joins this staff. Honestly, that year at USC was probably more beneficial to his coaching/recruiting resume than a year here would've been.

Dools wanted a 5 million payout and get back to being a lawyer.

He did not want to win and stick on to coaching at a lower salary :p

When CB left we had the WR job open and that's what most on here remember but we didn't have RB coach at all. It was killing us in recruiting so DD decided to move Hinshaw to WR and hire JayG in that slot. It was only one spot that was open and we needed to hire JayG much more than T

You do realize we lost 8 coaches, right? Having a computer app guy out of coaching and a guy from The Citadel over Tee Martin was extremely dumb. Dooley instead of coaching the TEs and STs, the only thing he ever did with success, decide to hire Coiner.

I've been fortunate to know Tee and his family for a pretty long time. There were
talks, Dooley did reach out to him last off season. Tee let him know he really wasn't interested in coming home at that time. More or less he did not want to work for Dooley. Dooley has a really bad reputation among coaches.

As far as this time around I can't really get a read on it. Really hard decision for him.

I don't understand. Shoot, he could have made Tee a Tight Ends coach, and it would have been fine.

Dools wanted all of the attention, all of the power!!!!! He would have feared Tee because the fans would have supported & loved Tee from day 1!!!!! Thats why Dools didn't want former Vol players around when he first got to UT!!!!!

Dools was afraid of success, Also he didn't know how to operate a phone.

As much as I pulled for the guy it was like he just didn't get it. From forming relationships with coaches, players, etc., he just didn't seem to understand the whole picture. Anyway we have a new coach.

GO BUTCHER VOLS!

It was T or jayG last year. It couldn't be both. We needed Jay more and anybody criticizing DD for that is showing their ignorance on that subject.

That's true, but they didn't even give Tee a call back. They ignored the guy. Lane Kiffin didn't ignore him. Now, where would your loyalty lie?

I think Dooley was a Saban wannabe without the success. He thought Saban's salty attitude is what brought success to a program. But what he didn't understand was the Saban is a great evaluator of talent and worked his way up the coaching tree in the NFL and college. Saban knows the x's and o's of football and learned from the best when he spent 5 years in Cleveland with Belichick.

Dooley thought through osmosis that he would be a good HC because of working under Saban as a position coach and that his dad was a NC coach when he was in pop warner football. Dooley had never had a coordinator job before becoming a HC at La Tech. It was a desperate hire at a desperate time with an incompetent AD at the helm.
