Why do coaches like Fulmer, Dooley, Zook, etc.

Phil is a VOL. There is no doubt he could have gone SOMEWHERE after he was fired--his record was wonderful, but I doubt his heart was in it.

I partly agree with this, but I think it was more so he wanted to go to a place that would be capable of winning a championship. I don't think he had much interest in some low profile power conference team or any lowet profile mid majors.

Louisville is the only school I've heard he actually interviewed with but I don't think there was much interest on either side.

But I'm pretty sure if a bigger name power conference came calling, he'd listen, so the idea he'd refuse stuff because he's "all Vol" is a bit naive.

The 90's were his best years because of the players he had and even recruited. .

I-A Winning Percentage 2000-2008

Yeah, as a UT fan, you sure would hate to suffer through the kind of record, Fulmer put up in the 2000s. 76-38, 19th best record in the nation, 5th best in the SEC for that time frame and 3 trips to the SEC Championship Game.

Another great dose of hope and change. How's that working out for you.

I honestly don't think Fulmer was a great coach. I think most of his success fell upon the coordinators. Nothing wrong with that just saying I think he gave a lot of freedom to the coordinators to bring the players along. Once Georgia and SC started to improve, we lost some big recruits. Coaches were pitching Fulmer's loyalty while telling recruits the spots open, work hard, and you could be playing as a freshmen.

Ask those coordinators who many of you are giving the credit what they think of Fulmer as a coach. Ask the former players what they think of Fulmer as a coach.

I'll put more stock in what those guys say.
