Why do I keep doing this?

I think back to the Orange in 1998. Peyton was getting blown out 42-10. I figured we’d never win another natty if we couldn’t even win one with Peyton. A few minutes later, while watching a young Tee Martin look dazzling in garbage time (which he really hadn’t had much of up until that point since Peyton was rarely pulled to let Tee get experience, I thought, we might be just fine next year after all.

I don’t think we’re as talented as we were in 1997-98, but after watching Milton in the Orange Bowl, I think we’ll be just fine next year.

Can it not also be said just as easily that Hooker hit the lottery by having Heupel as his coach and that he owes much of his success to Heupel's coaching? It isn't as if he was some sure fire star when he transferred here - quite the contrary, in fact.

Yes thats fair. The situation is completely symbiotic. I just have my doubts that when the play breaks down, Joe has the ability to make plays with his feet the way Hooker did. He just doesnt look as comfortable scrambling around as Hooker did. You'd think based on his physical tools Joe would look to truck defenders but he actually seems to shy away from contact and he lacks the elusiveness that Hooker had. I'm seeing 8-4 or 9-3 next year based on what we've seen so far.

I figured the lesson we all learned this year is to forget about predictions and just let it happen. I see no reason why we can't match or top what we did this year. Joe gets a full off season with Heupel as QB1, we will have added depth throughout the roster, especially on the defensive side, and Heupel's system is now in place and ready to roll. No way I'm going to put a ceiling on what this group might accomplish.
