this worked great with Witten. Now i know chris brown isnt witten but man this would help our play action and it would give the recievers less coverage to weave through.

why did we go away from it?

You hit the nail on the head - He is no Jason Whitten. If he have problems getting to our primary WR's how do expect to get it to a second rate TE.

it would give us more options though. hell give him a chance. we cant run, receivers cant catch, what would it hurt?

I know what you mean and i agree with you. It would work and open up the game. The problem the WR's and RB's are catching and running short routes where the TE typcially gets the ball so he has been made obsolete this season. The fact that offense is so dysfunctional right now i honestly dont know what they plan to do or how to fix their existing problems.

I know what you mean. They are scared to throw it in the middle. It sure would be nice to see them use the TE.

I think that is alot of the TE situation. Never the less, id like to see us land one of the 2-3 big physical TE's on our list.

UT doesn't use the TE because Fulmer wants one 6'8" 300 pounds and runs a 4.3 40

Witten was the first I remember UT using effectively, except for Dustin Moore who let the ganja get him. For some reason we have not chosen to use ours for receivers.

Just look in the NFL, most teams use a TE a lot. I think Chris Brown could be a nice TE if only given the opportunity to catch more balls.

Our tight ends can't catch...plus they are not very talented.

Boy, true class about a team you claim to be a fan of.

Had hoped Finlayson or Reed with their size could have played a better role. Brad Cottam has great size 6-8 263, but has yet to step it up on the practice field.

Heck our recievers cant catch! what makes yall think that a TE will do any better? I guess give it a shot. Go Vols! Beat ND!!

Its not just as simple as saying "why don't we throw to the tight ends, that will open up the offense." We haven't been able to run the ball very effectively and our passing game doesn't scare a high school team which means teams are putting more players up closer to the line of scrimmage and crowding things up. We don't have a TE with the speed of Witten to beat a LB and get open in the middle of the field. Plus we don't know exactly what the play calls are. For all we know many of the pass plays could have the TE as the primary but they might not be open.

I'm not sure throwing underneath to a tight end would do anything for us. If there's one thing we don't need it's another receiver running 3 yard drag routes.

well, u know what. anything new and inventive would might work.

better than using the same sh*t over and over, huh?

what do yall have in mind if not a tight end?

maybe we should stop changing the play 57 times before we hike it. u know how many times we have had penalties b/c of that.

maybe the recievers dont even know what play we are running half the time.

i got a real good one. lets just punt on first down and let our d carry us. hell they will at least score once, right?

At the SC game I was watching Brown warm up. He dropped just about everthing thrown to him.

They aren't always changing the play, but I agree that taking all that time does cause problems.

I think good TE's are just hard to find.

Yep... aside from Gates and Gonzalez, there aren't many TEs at all that can change the game in the NFL, much less college.

Witten was a beast. Didn't he leave early?

Witten still is a beast. He is just as effective as the other two you mentioned in the NFL. I would probably add Miller onto that list. He's having a good season with the Steelers.

gates is the only superstar. and he is built like a reciever. he isnt overly big like most tight ends. i guess that gives him enough speed to seperate from the overly steroided linebackers.

overlysteroided- is that a word. :dunno:
