TN started just a few years ago, they hadn’t been hunted here in almost a century. It’s a quota hunt with pretty tight limits. You also have to take a test to make sure you don’t shoot a whooping crane by mistake. My wife’s cousin lives near Lubbock which has a big wintering population, he calls them sirloin of the sky and fixes them very similar to a medium rare steak.Yep, thanks. We have them in middle TN too. It's nice to hear them, then look up and see them.
I was surprised to find out they can be hunted now.

Last night I arrived home about 9:00 pm. I live in a neighborhood outside Chattanooga in Hixson. Normally we have the lights on the outside of the house on. They were not on for some reason. I parked in the side driveway as I always do. Checked to make sure the tool boxes were locked and started around the truck towards the front of the house. My dogs we’re going crazy. As I looked back to yell “shut up!” At them I found myself about 20 feet from a large Coyote closing fast right at me. I carry so without even thinking I drew the gun, flipping the safety off and fired. Something I’ve practiced 1000 times. He rolled jumped up and ran away.
Self defense doesn’t mean that you’re just worried about criminals. Everyone should be prepared to defend themselves and their loved ones.
Don’t just get a gun. You also need to practice so you know how to use it safely.
Shalom y’all
So you missed hahah?
JK .
Out here on the West Coast I've lost track of how many Coyotes I've scares away while I've been on a trail.
When I lived in Texas, there was one day i was walking in a "transitional " neighborhood and the biggest most massive dog I had ever seen was just loose AND it had a bad temper. It looked like that dang thing from the Sandlot movie and it was all white with jet black eyes. It growled from across the street and began walking down the street towards me...it then crossed the street. It had zero fear of me. So i backed the eff up hahah.
A bullseye does not roll, jump up and run away.
Just because we have the right to bear arms, it does not mean everyone has the mental ability.
I am always leery of people that discharge a firearm in the city limits. It is against the law.
Anyone that has been trained properly should know that. You are responsible for your projectile.
More leery of Barney Fife types that brag of their training and how it saved their life.
People like that are called gun nuts for a reason.
Naw I got him. I tracked him down and found him dead.
I see them all the time. First time I’ve ever been charged though. The guys at Tennessee Wildlife said they are getting reports of coyotes running up on people and nipping them then running away. They speculate that the coyote was trying to chase me out of its area. Who knows. I usually don’t shoot things unless I plan to eat them. Coyotes are not on the menu. Coyotes are becoming such a problem that Tennessee has declared open season on them with no bag limit.
For a second when you posted you had been charged , I thought you had been cited. LOL. I believe there has been an open season on coyotes in Virginia for a long time.Naw I got him. I tracked him down and found him dead.

You guys think a head shot to a skunk with 16 gauge #8 shot will kill it quick enough to prevent it from spraying..... say from 20-25 ft?
Should have used dragon fire shellsMy skunk story! Coming home in the wee hrs of the morning I smelled the strong odor of a skunk. I walked around to the front yard and there was a possum rolling/rubbing his face in the grass and a few feet away was a skunk gigging for grub worms. I assume the skunk had sprayed the possum because they were competing for the same meal
I eased in the house and got my 870 Remington loaded with tactical buck shot. From around 30 ft away I aimed at his head and pulled the trigger. He didn't "spray".
The difference in the gauge and shells are my main concern. The only shotgun I have is an old 16 gauge. I guess I cold buy some bigger shot, but i know what I have will kill it.......and totally make the neighbors crap their pants....but I'm not in the city limits. My skunk story! My dog got sprayed last week and I've seen the skunk every night since then so it's got a den somewhere nearby.
