Why does it feel like everyone has written us off?

I enjoy the team being under the radar rite now...remember TCU wasn't talked about this time last year either for playoff.....
They played better last year when being the underdog as well. The team slipped up once a target was on their back. I think that's something this program needs to learn to deal with as they continue to grow.

The performance of the offense in the Austin Peay game is what sounded the alarm bell for me. I was really pulling for Joe Milton to step out of Hendon's shadow in his final year and at last demonstrate consistently the talent that he has flashed from time to time during his six years in the college game. And his receivers have also failed to step up with the possible exception of White. I certainly don't trust a Martinez coached secondary against a quality passer like Cook, and I expect Milroe to scorch them at least a couple of times this week. I knew that last year was a special season and that I was probably hoping for too much to see lightning strike twice in Ktown in consecutive years. I am not writing this team off, but unless something almost magical or miraculous happens to ignite a flailing passing game in the last half of the season, I see losses to Bama, Mo., and Ga. down the stretch and a nail biter against Ky. Just to remind myself that it did actually happen, I still have last year's Bama game on the DVR, and watching that scene unfold as the game ended still gives me goosebumps!! Go Vols!! I sure hope you prove me wrong.

Our pass production is not adequate enough to get through this stretch unscathed. Defense has played well except for Florida, but no defense can be put back out on the field time and time again by an unproductive offense. Have to have a productive passing game in this league. Bama is going to load up at the line, try to take away the run and make Joe beat them passing. Heupel better have three or four newly designed plays to help Joe out in that situation or it’s going to be a long day. I hope that, for once, it just clicks for JM3 tomorrow.

With the toughest teams ahead of us, it makes me think that our stats are a little inflated compared to other SEC teams.
I think you hit the mail on the head about OPs ask. However we match up pretty well with Bammer this year. They're ranked #11 and we are #17. Not to often are we that close. You got to give them 3 points for being at home. If our passing game improves just a litle bit we beat them. Our rushing attack is solid. But works best when our passing game clicks better than it did against A&M. I'm happy Joe tossed his seasonal INT last week and got it out of his system. I'm slightly confident we take them.

Don't know what everyone else around here has been watching because what I've seen has been pretty awful. The Florida loss wasn't just unfortunate or "bad;" it was disastrous because it wasn't as close as the score implied. Up to that point, we hadn't played anybody, and we went into the Swamp and showed the nation that even with a hot new coach and supposedly Heisman-worthy QB who could throw the ball 90 yards, we haven't emerged from our 90s futility against UF. We got exposed in that game as it became clear that our QB is very, very limited. All of the red flags that Michigan fans warned us about, and all of the reasons JM has lost the starting job over and over again proved to be still here. That game wasn't even close. The Gators DESTROYED us and left absolutely no doubt that they still own us. And how good are the Gators? Lost to Utah, got flattened by Kentucky, and struggled more against Charlotte than they did against the Vols. So they're not all that, really. The defense and rushing attack have saved us, but without the balance a passing game would bring, those two things won't be enough against Bama and Georgia and probably Kentucky. Can we win those games? Of course...just like Appalachian State COULD win against Michigan on any given day. But experts know that it would be foolish to bet on it. And Tennessee has a history of getting people's hopes up then stumbling unexpectedly late in the season (see South Carolina and LSU). That's why nobody is talking about us making a deep run. Tennessee is the Penn State of the SEC: always a bit behind the two best teams.
Lol. This is just a whole lot of negative BS. No wonder it got zero likes.

Bama didn’t lose to a crappy Florida team.

But it doesn’t matter. The back half of our schedule presents a lot of opportunity. I just don’t think we are good enough this season to make any real hay.
Crappy UF? Joe about we wait until the season plays out before making that distinction.

While our defense, OL, and rb have improved, our qb and wr play has regressed. When there is a regression in performance in any area, that's what people tend to focus on.

Because we have proven to be a good, but not great, team. We lost to a mediocre Florida team and struggled against far inferior opponents. USCjr is really the only game we looked like a top 10 team. We have a very good defense up front, questionable coverage ability in the secondary (big part of the FL loss) and an anemic passing game. We win on the ground and by sacking/pressuring the opposing QB.

We are by no means a bad team but w/o the explosive plays from last years offense there isn't an "it factor" that gets people excited about this years ceiling. Hope we prove everyone wrong!

For one Heupel’s terrible decision to ride with Milton. Could a hit the portal. The loses to Florida, and our inability to complete forward passes. See point one again.

I’m guessing they’re an SC Jr fan. In that whole paragraph there’s no bad talk about SC and how we obliterated them this year, just talk about “slipping up” to them last year. The win over a good A&M team this year wasn’t mentioned either.

Without the explosive offense and the fact that we really haven't beaten anyone important yet this year we aren't worthy of that kind of attention. Beating Bama is a good start but even if we beat Bama they may not notice us because the feeling about Bama is their dynasty is over and they are falling apart. We need to go into the Georgia game with 1 loss to get noticed.

You were more confident than me. I was surprised at the first half and then the second half happened.

For the record, the absolutely face of getting it wrong and just accepting the conventional wisdom is Chris Doering. He is predicting double digit bammer win. This is the same guy that predicted Tamu over bammer because "they are better at every position than bama". LMAO.
Picking TAMU over Bama is the conventional wisdom?
