Why does LSU automatically get so many night games?

LSU's always had a lot of night games due to the heat and humidity down there.

It started out of necessity and now it's a tradition.

Don't worry, Baton Rouge isn't going to be around much longer ...

I think a lot of schools just pick a time this far in advance if TV wasn't involved...i think you won't see that many of their games at 8 due to TV...but they would have everyone at night if they could.

“Part of the lore of Tiger Stadium is the tradition of playing games at night, an idea that was introduced in 1931 against Spring Hill (a 35-0 LSU victory). In 2006, LSU celebrated its 75th year of playing night football in Tiger Stadium. Since that first night game in 1931, LSU has played the majority of its games at night and the Tigers have fared much better under the lights than during the day. Since 1960, LSU is 215-60-4 (.778) at night in Tiger Stadium compared to a 21-26-3 (.450) record during the day over that span. Since 2000, LSU is 51-5 in night games and head coach Les Miles is 24-1 in night games in Death Valley. CBSSports.com’s Dennis Dodd wrote in Oct. 2009 of LSU’s fabled night history,

‘It has turned the knees of All-Americans to goo. It has caused coaches to lose their coaching minds. It only happens at a special space at a special time. LSU can be up, LSU can be down, but LSU’s best weapon remains … sunset’” (Tiger Stadium (92,400) - LSUsports.net - The Official Web Site of LSU Tigers Athletics ).

Unlike the NFL who dictates when games are played, each school can schedule games when they like with cooperation of the opposing team.

Some of those games could wind up being moved if CBS wants them. LSU better hope some of those games wind up at 2:30, or that means they aren't doing that well.

Valid point, but daytime football for LSU is a double-edged sword. See the stats cited above with respect to how much better they have fared under the lights. Yes, I know that the easy wins against lesser opponents are much less likely to be picked up as mid-afternoon games by CBS.

That's true and as LW pointed out it adds a little pepper the gumbo down there at tiger stadium lol.

I read a story once that back in the 30's a circus came to Baton Rouge and the big show was on Saturday and governor Huey P. Long shut the circus down because the Tigers were playing that same day!! He also wrote one of the LSU fight songs as well.

there are a lot of schools in the south where it's just as hot an humid, but they don't get that many night games.

I love night games though, wish all of ours were that way

Because there's a lot of drankin and corn dog eatin that has to be done all day before the big game.

I know you're joking, but an LSU night game tailgate is quite an experience. You're sure to eat good, and I've never seen corn dogs on the menu.

I've never been to an LSU game before. Where did the whole corn dog joke originate? Or do they actually smell like them lol.
