Why has Heup been so succesful bringing Vols back from the dead

Whereas Scott Frost was a disaster at Nebraska.

Too much on which to speculate. Relationship betwixt the AD and HC. Coaching staff coherence. Mentality and quality of the team player personnel. Character of the coach and his staff. Level of support from the fan base and university as a whole. And that's naming a tidbit of the factors. Forget Frost, just be glad we have Heupel and hope his success continues.

Heart. Heupel came in and created a family environment and showed the guys he truly cares about them. In turn, they care about him and care about each other. He also allows them to go have fun, doesn't make it all "business".

I think the biggest reason is his scheme. He has always run a high scoring offense, so even if your defense is hot garbage, if the other team has any issues scoring points, you have a chance to win. He's done it pretty much wherever he's been with whoever he had.

It started on the day Josh Heupel taught the lads how to play dodge ball.

Seriously.

He walked in the door and said, "I love you. I'm here for you. You are my family. I'm here to help you succeed. Let's have fun. We are not going to make you adjust to our system, we are going to mold our system around your abilities. We are going to put each of you in a position to succeed. We won't run a play until you are 100% comfortable running it. And that's how we're going to win championships. With love, and support for each other."

Those aren't his exact words, but they are his exact messages.

He started off by changing the culture. Fixing the culture.

And then, once he got that started, he honed in on football.

Leadership. Values.

Those who don't have them think they're just words. In truth, they are the most powerful forces at play when two or more people gather.

That's how he did it.

Go Vols!

Heupel is an offensive guru… is his offense unstoppable? Of course not, but TN needed a coach that could come in and out coach or out scheme other coaches in the league in order to get some wins that maybe they shouldn’t have on paper.

A good coach with how far our talent level had fallen was not going to cut it in this league. You end up with only the occasional upset and recruiting ends up following that same trajectory.

Heup has restored excitement to this program and fanbase and with these results recruiting is following suit.

I wouldn’t want to be anywhere in Milton’s line of fire. I have a feeling he could take off a body part with a dodge ball.

Culture and an offensive scheme that is almost impossible for opposing teams to simulate. I read an article back when Nebraska fired Frost that suggested he was lazy and may have an alcohol problem. Oh and if they had waited just a few short weeks more to fire him, the buyout would have been cut in half. That should tell you all you need to know.

He has three stars and a few four stars, and look what real coaching does, turns them into gems.

I can't speak as to the Frost issue. But, CJH is a player's coach. He has the team's best interest at heart and he cares about them as a person. The players have bought into his style of football and are excited about the way we play.
They would run through a burning building for their coach. I do know this. I know TN was the butt of jokes for years about all the coaching changes we went through. But, WE FINALLY GOT IT RIGHT and nobody is laughing now! Go VOLS!!!!!

I'm very much in awe of what Coach Heupel has done at Tennessee. It all started with cohesion as a team and supporting each other. The other thing that makes him better than most is his flexibility and knowing each player's limitations and strengths and teaching these players to use them to their advantage. The last thing was bringing in assistants with specialities and trusting them to give him the best choices to make his final decision. That foundation was key to begin the upward climb out of the cesspool we were in. I feel good about the future of Tennessee football as long as he is at the reins.
