Why has someone not put this out there?

I dont get the whole cigar thing. I mean really do Bama fans enjoy a cigar more than bedding their cousin?
I don't get tearing down our own goal post. I get fans rushing the field and all, but taking the goal post to the Tn River ...shows.....? To me it only highlights how broken our program has been for so long. The old Bum Phillips saying " act like you been here before" comes to mind

Bill sure wasn't to choosy about what it put it in. Blech.

Anyway, I do recall tearing the other team's goal posts down on a certain occasion, which would make more sense, but I guess it's pretty impolite.

We did it several times in the 90s (stormed field, climbed goalposts, or took down goalposts, we even took up most of the checkerboard lol… many times lol) .. I was there for the Florida game and the trip down the strip as a student. Why should we act like we’ve been there before, when we haven’t been for a minute? 😂 I’m glad the students and fans are enjoying themselves, that’s as it should be.. Go Vols!

I am not critical of your post but I always find it amusing to see post about other states/schools being inbred or sleeping with their cousin etc. while in Tennessee IT IS legal to bed/wed your first cousin.

Should we really follow the advice from a grown man who goes by Bum?

For how long exactly? Goal posts came down in the 80s and 90s as well

I would just have to carry an unlit one around. I also prefer we just know it as "The Third Saturday in October" or the TTSO Bowl if you really want to brand it a bowl.

Most of those young people that tore down the posts “haven’t” been here before!

Yeah, someone trying to make those goal posts a statement about our program are going to miss the mark every time. It's just a thing fans do when they're exuberant. Or sometimes, pissed off. Or sometimes calculating. And it's been around almost as long as the sport itself.

This is a fun read, and covers most of the reasons fans might tear down a goal post or two--or six--after--or during--a game. Enjoy!

Regarding the goal posts and rushing the field - we should never act like we have been there even when we fully get back there! We should always be excited enough to celebrate a win over a good team. When you get to the point where "wins are expected" and you treat them "just as another win" you have nowhere to go but down.
