Exactly. They've forgotten how to develop their own talent. If the Yankees were run by Billy Beane they would win the World Series every single year. They'd probably win 125-130 games a year.
Fortunately, though the Yankees have spent the last ten years trying to build their team by acquiring a bunch of aging all-stars. If they spent all that money on younger players who are just coming into their prime, they'd be unstoppable.

Which, in a way, is rather humorous.Whether they ended up spending it or not, just the access to that $250m would be a killer in the hands of someone like Beane. They'd scout and develop their own talent, they'd be able to sign literally every single free agent that was coming into his prime that they wanted (e.g., Beltran a few years ago) to long-term deals. They'd then be in a position to turn around and flip those guys just about the time they hit 32 or 33 (and headed into their probable decline) for more prospects. Instead they've been acquiring marquee-name players right at the age they should be dumping them.
Does it bother anyone else that they try to buy their wins? They buy the best players but do not get the best results and it makes me . If a Marlins team with less than half the payroll can smoke them then $ is not what they should be concentrating on. OK let me have it!!!!!!!!
If you grew up in the 90s, you just inherently despise teams like the Yankees, Bulls, Florida (for UT fans) or even Jeff Gordon if you happened to be into NASCAR at the time. No reason is needed.
Which, in a way, is rather humorous.
Well, with Brian Cashman (who is just as good as Beane, just without a book) now in complete control, you are starting to see the yankees contend with their own talent.
Robinson Cano came up last year and for the last 1/3 of the year, after he came back from a hamstring injury, he lead the majors in RBI and batted over .330
Melky Cabrera started for much of last year while Hideki Matsui was out with a broken wrist and filled in with .280 and great fielding.
Jose Tabata should be up next year and is "the next Manny Ramirez" according to many scouts.
Then most baseball fans know about Philip Hughes, who will be up this year. But they also have Tyler Clippard, another stud pitcher who hasn't gotten the publicity but should be a very solid #3 starter.
Chien Ming Wang finished 2nd in the CY Young voting last year and is also homegrown, he is injured right now though.
The Yankees have the talent, they are just recovering from some awful contracts such as Raul Mondesi, Randy Johnson, and Kevin Brown. Once they shed those contracts, and Carl Pavano finally gets completely healthy (and pitches like he did Monday), all of those things will be moot. Unfortunately, Steinbrenner had the reins from 2000-2006, and screwed the Yankees system, but with a real baseball guy in control, the Yankees are on the verge of rebuilding their dynasty like it was from 1996-2000.

2003, even.Fine Vol, seems your stuck in 2005. Join us in 2007.
I didn't care how they won. They did, and did it a lot in the late 90s, and that made me dislike them. I'm aware of how they did it.Most people don't know that they didn't buy their championships. They bought their teams from 2001-2006. During the 90s, I can accept that you dislike them because they won with great fundamentals, but if you disliked them in the 90s because they spent too much money, then you'd be wrong.
