We won the game, in what way did we "almost have our asses handed to us"?
Agreed wholeheartedly. I'm not happy with the performance of the team for four quarters but I was pleasantly surprised about the team's initial focus and performance in what was a significant trap game (week after UF and the week before UGA and the gamut of SC and Bama thereafter). Moreover, South Alabama had just beaten WKU, a team the fanbase was, more or less, happy about beating a few weeks back. South Alabama's roster had several transfers from big conference teams--some of which were high level teams like Alabama--and possibly a NFL player or two. UT dominated them after their first drive until near the end of the third quarter. UT had trouble sustaining concentration, effort, and execution and appeared to coast and start thinking about UGA in the second half. Is the second half acceptable for UT? Of course not. No one is happy about it. But, learning to win and not playing to the competition or coasting after opening a big lead (i.e., playing like a champion) is a process the team is going through right now. Plus, the roster--due to attrition and poor recruiting--is showing right now. If we have these issues in year 3 of CBJ, then we may have a problem, but it is way too early to know right now.
