Why is our women's b-ball so successful

We're one of about 15 schools that actually take women's basketball seriously.

Because women's basketball is nowhere near as competitive as men's basketball. The University of Tennessee jumped onto the Women's Basketball bandwagon at the very beginning of its climb and did manage to find the best Women's coach in history.

When did Geno start coaching the Lady Vols?

Why am I not surprised to again find you on the contrarian side of a debate that relies solely upon opinion?

Don't get me wrong, I understand that Auriemma is exactly your type of guy (read: classless), but why constantly be an instigator?

I can see our mens program catching up with them Lady Vols before long. We might not be winning championships but we are getting the national exposure and recruits. Pat is by far the best coach womens basketball has ever had. Players want to play for her and become a Lady Vol. That builds a program and has lead to the best womens basketball program in the country.

Pat is the reason...she's probably the most respected coach, all things considered, in the country, and young women from all over want to play in her program...

I think Geno has definitely passed PHS as the best coach in women's basketball right now, you can't really deny it. He has some work to finish up on though to surpass her legacy

one thing i know for sure..there would be no Geno w/out first having PHS. Changing of the guard happens in every sport....someone always comes along that takes the top spot.

i don't think anyone would argue PHS's career accomplishments...they are unprecedented. but as with all things....out with the old and in with the new.

PHS was Geno before Geno became Geno....that doesn't make him better, it just makes him next....

Someone mentioned this already -- maybe Hat -- but one reason is because a) she's a good coach, but also b) when she started no one really devoted much to women's basketball. They aren't as many teams at the top, and she was able to build a program without major competition for players or resources.

Women's sports always lend themselves to a dominating presence at every level. It's far easier to separate yourself...in golf, tennis, basketball, or anything else.

yeah, i agree with that...it's a lot easier to dominate a sport that is full of nothing at the beginning than it is today...but w/out PHS, the sport wouldn't be what it is today for a geno to even be of any consequence....

which came first, the chicken or the egg?
