People who think this decision had anything to do with "performance" are incorrect. ESPN schedules these games in the summertime. They knew this would be a week in which no one would watch ESPN in primetime regardless of the matchup, so they went with a double header. One game that has a chance to be decent with solid ratings at noon, and one game to appease a certain demographic at 8. I expect them to make this a yearly thing, alternating between Tennessee and UConn, because no one else shows up or cares for women's games.

When NFL games are being shown on other networks, ESPN tends to broadcast programs that attract an audience of non-football watchers. So you'll often see ice skating or the like.
