Why not Mike McIntyre? (SJSU)

His record is not very good, despite all the money shortages. Arguments were also being made that Dooley had to double as an AD....

The program does not need to "settle" with someone again. The AD needs to go, the school needs to back off and allow the program to rebuild, and they need to bite the bullet and fork out the money and get somebody who will whip the program into shape like a good drill sergeant

Huh? Do you comprehend the situation he walked into at all?

SJSU was one of the worst programs in FBS when he took over. Each year he has shown improvement (1, 5, then 10 wins). He literally BUILT what SJSU is right now in 3 short years. This is the kind of leadership Tennessee needs. If you are looking for instant success for a coach to win the division next year, good luck because you are not going to get one.

Lol he said Dave Clawson.

Brings up a good idea though: Feet to the fire would you rather have Randy Sanders or Dave Clawson back as OC or hell even head coach at this point?

Well, MacIntyre was UK's next choice if Stoops turned them down and Berry was a bit below that. So this is where we are?

I would say Mac is a much better choice than Stoops. There is no guarantee Stoops is a great coach because of his last name. Big Game Bob is still Big Game Bob. Mike was a big, angry, red bag of meh. Mark's defense at FSU has been okay, I guess.

Mike also worked with Bill Parcells as a DB coach in Dallas. He was Cutcliffe's DC at Duke before taking over at SJSU.

SJSU was the worst team in NCAA D1 the year before Mike took over. He will be successful where ever he coaches. While not the big name everyone wants, he would win at UT and do it the right way with a lot of class.

HE will not be considered at UT but remember his name, he will be winning at a BCS school soon.

I'm not knocking MacIntyre. IDK that much about him, though he seems to have done a pretty good job. I'm just saying that we're now fishing in a different pond. It could work out for us, but I think we were hoping for a little more big game experience, given our recent history. But, yeah, who knows about Stoops? UK fans seem deliriously happy with the hire.

I'd be down for this. To take a team from 1-12 to 10-2 in 3 years with limited scholarships and funding is downright amazing. To imagine what could be done with a real recruiting budget, SEC recruiting, and talent already in place..could be pretty sweet.

Someone will snatch this guy up...and we'll all be left wondering why we never made a move on him again...just like with Kelly, Sumlin, Hoke...all these big-time established coaches had patterns of success that mimics what MacIntyre and the guys I mentioned above have...they win no matter where they go. Dooley didn't have that, obviously. (Threw that in there for those of you who are going to lament about hiring another "up and comer.")

Derp Dooley's best season at LT was 8-5 which was followed up by a 4-8 season before Tennessee hired him. Pretty sure he was only hired because he was Vince Dooley's son. Certainly not because of any accomplishments or signs he was an "up and comer".

I know Mike on a personal level and know that he would be a fantastic hire at UT. He is smart, energetic, and passionate about what he does. He does not have a recruiting budget but works tirelessly to raise funds so he can recruit players in California.

Mike played at Vandy and Georgia Tech in addition to coaching in the SEC, so he would have no problem recruiting the southeast. His ties to Coach Cutliffe is a big plus, as we know that Cutcliffe does not hire guys that will not work hard.

MacIntyre's NFL coaching background is a big selling point with recruits as well.

Mike MacIntyre would be a solid hire for the Vols.

I met him years ago while he was on a date with a friend of mine. Struck me as a really great guy. Over the years I've casually watched his career and can say that he's definately had the training as well as learning from many good coaches. If he got our gig I wouldnt be disapointed.

You and I were making the same point, but a lot of people on here now have an aversion to hiring a younger, less proven coach after what happened with Dooley.

Defensive minded, SEC experience, NFL experience under Bill Parcells, and a successful head coach. He may be young but his strengths go beyond a "great organizer" and "very detail oriented".

Mike MacIntyre would be a great hire. Which means UT has utterly no chance at him.

because you had to include a wikipedia page cause no one knows who he is. as you said, we saw how that went with the last coach that that was true of.

Huh? You should probably review his resume. Him and Derp are in vastly different leagues.

I was answering your question of "why not McIntyre" Still, he is a no name coach. It's too much of a risk. He isn't proven enough to trust him with a program like TN in the SEC I would take Pellini over him.
