This must be Trae's decision and not CCM. Trae's going to be a senior. His bad grades doesn't just pop out of nowhere. Who's been keeping tabs?!

I don't mean to be a d!ck, but do you read the threads related to the topic of the thread you're about to start?

Its being said he cheated, that martins hands were tied and that jimmy cheek said he was gone. That means martin couldn't suspend him even if he wanted to, it means that Martin had no choice but to wave goodbye.

Common sense tell you that there is a no forgiveness violation here. He don't want to go, CCM don't want him to go. What's left but a case of paying the fiddler after whatever the dance was.

Dude, he was addressing the topic at hand. The OP would have a point if Golden's grades were the only problem, but most everyone is saying it's plagiarism.

BTO was not being a dick at all. He was trying to be nice, but his preface was not even required.

Oh Christ, I just realized who I was talking to. If it were up to you, every thread would just have an OP, and that's it.

Hey, didn't you flame me multiple times because you thought I was posting irrelevant information in your thread (which I wasn't)?

"If you're not gonna post about the topic, don't post in the thread!"

Let's take a little different view on Coach Martin than most of us were taking earlier. We thought that this would make people not want to play for him and it would blow up in his face, that he was being disloyal and looking out mainly for his own self interest, etc.

But, on reflection, it appears that Coach was willing to use his press release to protect Trae from an embarrassing revelation and allow him some dignity on the way out, even though it meant that the fire would turn in his direction when he wasn't actually responsible for this.

If that's the case, then this kind of thing is classy instead of classless, and it will make kids want to play for him with all they have instead of making kids not want to play for him at all.

Man, looks like we probably missed the boat on this one. But, that's what happens when people are vague and an void of information exists - people speculate, and usually to the negative.

If this ends up being true, Coach, I apologize. Classy move, sir.

Still, even though it wasn't about "bad grades"... no one answered the "who's been keeping tabs"? What I meant was who keeps tab of the student athletes academic side of things. I don't know the entire details or system, but it had to be an ONGOING major thing. It doesn't make any sense to me. Either a teacher got fed up with it and went straight to the president or there is definitely MORE to this story.

I would say it's either that Trae got caught once, and was reported to SJA, or he was suspected of cheating in the past and got caught now, or there was a cover-up. I would say each is as viable as the last.

Not to be nit picky, but technically not citing someone else's idea or information in a paper is plagiarism. Could be as simple as that, even though the perp may have had no intention to pass the other's information as his own.

If it was simple as that, then that should have been a F in that class. Not a get the "F" out of TN.

I'm guessing that scholarship players HAVE to maintain a certain average?

No dude, if you're reported to SJA for plagiarism, you can be expelled. It's in the HillTopics handbook.

I see what you're driving at though, and it doesn't make sense to you because it's probably not grades. For the exact reasons you're stating and the fact that "plagiarism" has apparently been floating around makes me believe it's not about his GPA

I think getting expelled for "plagiarism" for a class that Trae probably never cared to be in, is crazy.

I HIGHLY doubt that Mr. Golden was going to "publish" his work. That's when plagiarism should be big deal. Copyright infringement/re-mixes, etc.. are a BIGGER deal.

The profressor needs to be canned!

That was a far-out scenario. You can bet that, if the rumors are true, Golden probably got caught cheating on an exam, or he clearly copied someone else in a paper. I've been grading at UT for years now, and the SafeAssign feature on BB is amazing. It checks everything on the Web, including academic databases and everyone else's assignments, and if it remotely matches what's on the paper, it tells you with plagiarism is suspected. I personally have caught people cheating with this. I don't know what happened to them, I had to turn then over to the professor.

Exactly.. You turn them to the professor. Then they SHOULD notify the coach as well.
