Why Randy Moss didn't sign with UT

If I am remembering correctly, he ruled out Notre Dame because he got into some kind of trouble before signing day. ND pulled the offer and he signed with Florida State. He got in more trouble before playing there and ended up at Marshall.
Tennessee decided not to pursue him as they checked into his background and was made aware of something’s . His character was in question and he also didn’t have the requirements to be eligible at Tennessee.

“When I went to Tennessee, all I heard was Peyton Manning’s in Virginia at a family member’s house, he’s trying to drive back here just to recruit you,” said Moss during the broadcast. “And I was like ‘if he’s driving here to recruit me, why isn’t he here right now to get me’. So it was kind of like Peyton being late, he wasn’t punctual. So that was the reason I didn’t become a Volunteer.”

Hall of Fame WR Randy Moss hilariously explains why he didn't sign with Tennessee

Manning to Moss would have been a beautiful thing.

Randy Moss - GOAT.

Moss at that age likely would’ve never made it at a major college, just too many distractions too many temptations. Randy is more intelligent than some give him credit for but he just didn’t give a damn about the rules at that age.

Not a fan. I played golf with him several years ago in a benefit tourney. The best part of the tourney was when we finished. He has/had hands but i suspect a terrible teammate.

Both can be true. He could have easily used Peyton not being available to remove Tennessee from the equation because he was looking for a reason. Either way, it worked out for both parties.

Or if he was serious about attending the university of Tennessee and meeting Manning, back in the mid 90's we had telephones.

Coach Fulmer I'm coming to Knoxville this weekend. Make sure one six picks me up.

Problem solved
