Why so much hate.

QB controverseys get started when a coach doesn't want to hurt someones feelings. USC has as many stud quarterbacks as there are days in the week. When was the last time you heard of a QB controversey out there. As tough as the defenses are in the SEC you need more than one quality QB b/c of the threat of injury.Say Ainge is the starter next year and he gets hurt. That leaves you with Crompton who is coming off a shoulder surgery, Cooter and Hardegree. It would be nice to have a stud freshman to add to that list.

Enough people.  We don't need any fighting amongst ourselves unless it's about who will start next year, Ainge or Crompton.

Noooooo...you were supposed to say last year's QBs Clausen or Ainge.....let's travel down deadhorse lane.....one more time.....

whoa, easy there jacksonian....that is crazy talk. I didn't like him cause he was a great player, but didn't come through in the end. Nothing personal, this is just from a fans point of view. I think you do need to relax with Bammer and family comments. Don't need those around here. Relax, have a good time. And you did start this thread, asking why people don't like him, what did you expect?

And if he really did date Brit Jackson, i hate him more

I liked both clausens. I think Casey couldn't win the bowl games. of course watching the peach bowl against Clemson and Maryland I have to choke those games up to play calling.

She did date him. She would hang out by the locker rooms after the game.

Guess that brief stint in "Top Gun" paid off.

i for one was a huge casey clausen fan. and how can you not like rick? the guy has almost no physical skills yet was a decent qb

I liked him. He put on the Orange jersey and represented us well. He was a good QB. He never embarrassed us off the field. He beat Bama and led the band. He was and is a Volunteer! Why are we arguing over this?

i started not being able to stand casey when he was hurt during the uga game one year and after we lost he said he "could've beaten uga with one arm tied behind his back" and then when he got his chance the next year he got embarrassed by them. and i also agree with another post on here about the # of wins he had at UT, yes it was a lot but not very many were the BIG games, although he had one or two, he never won enough of them to get anywhere.

I didn't have anything against Casey. I thought he was a solid QB for the most part.

If I could find something negative about him, he just didn't seem to progress from his Freshman and Sophomore year. Can probably hang that on the coaching just as much as we can hang it on him though.

It's been a long long time since we have really talked about Casey. I wonder how long it has actually been?

I love Casey Clausen and cannot stand Rick Clausen!

Casey does not get his due, the 2001 team was destined for greatness, then laid an egg against LSU.

I am not saying they would have beat "The U" but I am sure it would have been a better game than Nebraska played! :banghead:

Peyton would have had a hard time completing passes on those guys.

Come on buddy, your talking about Peyton. He dont have trouble completing passes no matter who he plays. :yahoo:

I never had a problem with Casey. I thought he was a decent college QB. He was not in the same class as Manning or Shuler. I thought of him as a scrapper. I think that alot of fans have turned on all of the Clausen's because of the perceived whining from Rick this year and some of the antics related to the recruiting of Jimmy. It is kind of nice that all the Mustain talk has silenced the Jimmy Clausen chatter.

To those who say that he never won the big game I believe that he was 2-0 in the swamp.

2-0 at Alabama, 1-0 at Miami.

I never had a problem with the guy, except that he made dumb decisions sometimes.

He drove us down the field in 03 with no timeouts to tie Bama and take the game to OT.

He beat UF in Gainesville 2 straight times.

Now, he couldn't beat UGA, with one arm or two, but overall I think he gets a bad rap.

He could have been worse. He could have been Joey Matthews.

W 17-14 at #17 South Carolina 19-of-31 for 152 yds, 1 int

L 21-35 vs #11 Kansas State (Cotton Bowl) 7-of-25 for 120 yds, 1 TD, 3 ints

Sophomore Season, 2001, 11-2 as starter

In Casey's best season, he led the Vols to the brink of the SEC and National Championship. A last second loss to Georgia and 4th quarter collapse in the SECCG kept this team from going down in history with the same regard as the 1998 squad. It should be noted that Clausen's stats in the 2 losses were 51-of-83 (61.4%) for 627 yds, 5 TDs, and only 1 int.

W 33-9 SYRACUSE 14-of-27 for 136 yds, 1 TD, 1 int
W 13-3 at Arkansas 13-of-17 for 136 yds
W 26-18 #14 LSU 18-of-28 for 309 yds, 1 TD, 2 ints
L 24-26 GEORGIA 24-of-40 for 295 yds, 3 TDs, 1 int

W 17-10 #12 SOUTH CAROLINA 14-of-23 for 211 yds, 1 int
W 28-18 at Notre Dame 17-of-29 for 228 yds, 1 TD, 1 int
W 49-28 MEMPHIS 22-of-35 for 298 yds, 5 TDs, 1 int
W 38-35 at Kentucky 20-of-30 for 285 yds, 4 TDs
W 38-0 VANDERBILT 20-of-29 for 278 yds, 2 TDs
W 34-32 at #2 Florida 17-of-25 for 168 yds, 1 TD, 2 ints
L 20-31 vs #21 LSU (SECCG) 27-of-43 for 332 yds, 2 TDs
W 45-17 vs #17 Michigan (Citrus Bowl) 26-of-34 for 393 yds, 3 TDs

Junior Season, 2002, 7-4 as starter

In his most disappointing season, Casey was injured for most of the year, and ran his mouth to the press entirely too much. Instead of being a leader, he contributed to team cohesion problems.

W 47-7 vs Wyoming (Nashville) 22-of-33 for 238 yds, 1 TD, 1 int
W 26-3 MTSU 24-of-29 for 263 yds, 1 TD, 1 int
L 13-30 #10 FLORIDA 30-of-44 for 285 yds, 1 TD
W 35-14 RUTGERS 15-of-28 for 284 yds, 3 TDs
W 41-38 (6OT) ARKANSAS 19-of-28 for 291 yds, 2 TDs, 1 int
{L 13-18 at #6 Georgia DNP - INJURED}
L 14-34 #19 ALABAMA 14-of-26 for 161 yds, 3 ints
W 18-10 at South Carolina 17-of-23 for 175 yds, 1 TD
L 3-26 #1 MIAMI 5-of-14 for 63 yds
{W 35-17 at Miss State DNP - INJURED}
W 24-0 at Vanderbilt 12-of-22 for 120 yds
W 24-0 KENTUCKY 13-of-26 for 175 yds, 2 TDs
L 3-30 vs #20 Maryland (Peach Bowl) 23-of-37 for 242 yds, 1 int

Senior Season, 2003, 10-3 as starter

In his final season, Clausen tried to regain his from from 2001. However, back-to-back losses to Auburn and Georgia ended the Vols shot at a spot in the SECCG. Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida tied for the SEC East Division, but Georgia won the "NEW" tie-breaker system that was installed midseason. Although the Vols finished the regular season a respectable 10-2 and ranked #6, another loss in the Peach Bowl tarnished the season.

W 24-6 FRESNO STATE 18-of-31 for 159 yds, 2 TDs, 2 int
W 24-24 MARSHALL 21-of-33 for 235 yds, 3 TDs, 1 int
W 24-10 at #17 Florida 12-of-23 for 235 yds, 1 TD, 1 int
W 23-20 (OT) SOUTH CAROLINA 13-of-22 for 149 yds, 2 TDs
L 21-28 at Auburn 30-of-47 for 355 yds, 2 TDs, 1 int
L 14-41 #8 GEORGIA 11-of-23 for 165 yds, 1 TD, 2 int
W 51-43 (5OT) at Alabama 23-of-43 for 283 yds, 4 TDs
W 23-6 DUKE 16-of-27 for 208 yds, 1 TD

W 59-21 MISS STATE 21-of-34 for 342 yds, 5 TDs
W 48-0 VANDERBILT 15-of-29 for 262 yds, 3 TDs, 1 int
W 20-7 at Kentucky 11-of-27 for 110 yds, 1 TD, 1 int
L 14-27 vs Clemson (Peach Bowl) 31-of-55 for 384 yds, 2 TDs
