Why the NCAA is a joke...

The NCAA is definitely a joke and then some. Add the 24 investigation/ruling on Cam Newton as well.

Agree completely regarding Winston....jury still very much out on Grier...lotta fishy stuff still needs to be cleared up.

A complete joke in more ways than one. The SEC should make a move on the AA and blow them up!

Not that I'm a fan of either of these schools, but come on....lots of truth here.

Unfortunately the NCAA doesn't seem to have the power it once had. If the Winston,Grier,Cam and even the Ala tuxedo incident had happened 10-15 yrs ago they would have had different outcomes.Just like I doubt a TV ban or death penalty would ever happen again. Ala came as close as you can get with the Means case to getting the death penalty and had that happened 5-10 years earlier they would have. Seems probation is happening way more in basketball and way less in football. No clue why though.

Fishy only in the timing of when they reported it, not fishy as it relates to the integrity of the game.

You're not going to no to get a lot of sympathy on here over Grier getting busted.

The NCAA is a joke but wrong crowd for the evidence at hand.

How do you know Will Grier is shooting everyone straight? Can't say I remember too many guys that say, "Yeah, you got me. I was taking illegal PEDs"

Yes the NCAA is a joke but so is this picture. UF has not released exactly what Grier got popped for have they? Original reports are it was ligandrol but it seems UF denies that. However they wont say what kind of drug it was. There are also conflicting reports on how much weight Grier has put on. I think its something a lot more than just something to help him with flu symptoms.

Actually its not a joke at all. Grier did something that affects the competitive balance of what's happening on the football field while Winston did stuff that only affects his character off the field.

On field transgressions are more important to organizations that run athletic competitions than what athletes do off the field.

Same reason Tom Brady's on field cheating is more important to the NFL than what Ray Rice does off the field to his girlfriend.

And who goes to the GNC for the flu?

Exactly, I think he should have to explain this story to the media. "Yeah I had the flu so instead of going to one of the Walgreens that are on every corner, and some even have 2, I went miles away to GNC to get meds for my flu" "Why would I do that you ask, well as you know when you have the flu you feel like crap and don't want to get out of bed let alone go on a miles long trip, so logically thats what I chose to do, remember I also chose to attend UF so that should tell you something about my decision making"

It's more of what things are under the coverage of their rules and fall within their jurisdiction.

They have to follow the rules of what their organization can actually cover...they can't act as a police force or have emergency powers over everything, because when they do things happen like the Miami investigation where the reality was that they completely overstepped their boundaries regarding what they were actually allowed to do, rendering their whole investigation moot.

Jameis's 1-game suspension came from FSU, by the way, not the NCAA.

The issue with Cam, though, was more of they didn't have an actual rule covering that type of thing happening (we can call it lack of foresight, I guess, but that also implies an expectation for them to have any and all possible infractions - likely and remote - documented and prepared ahead of anything like that actually occurring...and they have a difficult enough time getting things passed as is.)

They could have placed a post season ban or ineligibility or something on them, but all that would have happened was Cam &/or Auburn would take it to the courts, and said courts would have ruled that they (the NCAA) weren't allowed to do such since there was no previous rule in place/specificed/that covered it (or alternatively that they couldn't create a new rule and then retroactively attempt to enforce it).
