Why UT fans don't care about basketball

My point is simple.

When UK is performing badly in basketball and losing to teams like VMI, fans throw cups at the head coach.

When UT is performing badly, fans simply don't show up.

I'm not blaming them. This is just an attempt to get to the root of the problem of our inability to ever do anything special in basketball. If teams like Davidson and George Mason can do it, why can't we?

As for the Negavols, i'm really looking for the reason why UT has NEVER made it past the sweet 16.

Wow. You're obviously not a basketball van, but I sure as hell am. I get excited about every UT game, football and basketball.... And even baseball for that matter. I think we ARE a relevant basketball program and Bruce Pearl is the one that got us here. I know he plays a different style of play than most, but that's his style and always has been his style. I'm happy that he has been able to get us the NCAA every year that he has been here. I'm happy that we have finished in front of UK in the SEC every year that he has been here (and I don't care that UK has been down). I'm happy with everything Pearl has done for UT and am thankful for him being at UT.

As far as Davidson and George Mason making it, it happens and will continue to happen every year or so with small programs being the "cinderella" team. The NCAA tournament is set up that way, that's why the seadings and regional placement is always such a big deal. Teams who come from the smaller conferences are in the tournament because they are great "teams" and are usually playing great together.. We have represented ourselves well in the tournament and expect us to be there again this year. Complaining about not making it past the Sweet 16 isn't going to get you anywhere. I think Bruce has the team it takes to get over that hump this year.

Senior members... I don't get that.

Why does it list people as senior members when you first sign up.

That's about the only thing I have to add to this thread because it really doesn't make sense.

Our basketball team is ranked in the top 10 and people are bashing on it. Obviously the guy just wanted to start a thread and has a short term memory.

I'll take UT being #9 in BBall every year. And I will never throw a cup at the coach. Noone does that.

KY is a BB school, they will NEVER do anything in football! TN is a football school first, always have been. We have became a top 25 BB school in rankings and attendance thanks to CBP!! I am a HUGE TN BB VAN!!! And I care what our BB program does year in year out!

The reason the hype is down currently is because it's December. Basketball won't matter to most outside of big non conference match ups until next year. Big non-conference wins are the only thing that will matter when it comes to this part of the season late in the season.

I'm currently worried about both the team and our chances at some big non-conference wins. As of now, I don't understand how we could possibly be ranked in the Top 10.

i care about the big orange in basketball alo ,more than most of you all do because i remember going to games where you could just get up ote of seat in the upper deck and go set courtside.and i was there alot.and when we start winning where the heck all of you screaming fans come from really ticks me off .cause for most games i cant get even get a ticket but wait and see if the vols ever go back to finishing last in sec east and losing 15 to 29 games every year you all will quit going. and guess what ill be there im not just a fair wethered fan i go when they are winners if possible and when they are losers .alot of you remind me of this 12 year old the other day said saints are undeafeated ,they are my favorite team ,then i said where are they he said new orleans i said what state he had no idea i asked who was your favorite last year he said the titans ,then i said i bet the year before you where a pats or a giants fan he said yea .thats ridiculas .i am a true fan i dont change i have had the same favorites every year since 1973 during the great times and th horrid times im big orange vol fan in college and in pro im a sixers fan and in football im a dolphins fan and i also pull for the titians since they moved to nashville and baseball im a pirates and astros fan last tital for pirates was in 79 they were close when they had their killer bs and the astros came close a few years back when former tennessee player chris burke hit grandslam against braves then lost in world series against whitesox ,and thesixers have been most up and down team i watch they won 7 out of 82 in 76 then doctor j and moses malone won the titaal in 81 they came close one more time with iverson and mutumboand the dolphins were the winningest team in the nfl from 72 to 88 but lost the last two superbowls to san fran and the redskins and the titans were a foot anf a half from beating the rams in superbowl so they are alot of people who just pull for whoever is the winner in the prosports and where i live going up i 75 turn right on 25 go 20 miles up the valley people more before tennessee started winning in basketball ,most say im a tennessee fan in football but im a kentucky fan im basketball.and i absolutely cant stand people like that. im a vol fan all the time win or lose my dad has always been a kentucky fan ,i cant fault him for that he was born in kentucky .we had a household rilvery if tenneessee lost in basketball i would say will get you in footbball and most of the time ut won football against ky and took the basketball game in knoxville.

I agree. In TN Football will always come first. But I will always support our basketball team....ALWAYS.

supporting wont get us to the Final Four. I'm willing to take those who don't think CBP can coach to a place they have never dreamed of. WE FU88888 WILL GET TO A FINAL FOUR.

Not with our lack of a championship caliber PG. If we had John Wall or Sharon(?) Collins then I would have no argument. We also need more productivity in the half court for teams that are athletic enough to slow us down

I'm a UT basketball fan no matter what! I love watching UT basketball win or lose. Great to be a Vol baby!

One reason - Guard play. As long as the Vols have a second tier PG and slightly above average shooting guards, the Elite 8 and Final Four will continue to elude them. Once you get to the Sweet 16, the majority of the teams are the elite teams for that year and most have excellent guards.

Pretty good for a team to get in the Top 4 of attendance when their fans "don't care".

I didn't say all. Most Vol fans don't.Just look at the post count difference between this forum and the football one. You would have to be blind not to see the differrence. Sure there are a few here and there who care but most of them only show up to games when they are winning.

We need to start a road to the final 4 campaign or something. If you don't know where you are going, how will you ever get there? There needs to be a little more excitement about bball on the hill. There also needs to be more accountability if we fail to compete.

I think the reason may be because their jersey's say Tennessee. It's not because of talent or x's and o's.

We've had plenty of talented teams and coaches in the past who should have made the final four.

UT will never be a cinderella team so its going to take a gigantic effort to break through.

NCAA retroactive...gave a CO-NC to UK for the 1950 11-1 season. UK finished the regular season ranked 7th in the polls. This was before the bowls counted toward the "final" rankings. This is why UT won in 1951...they lost the bowl game. It was done as a tribute toward Bryant more than to UK!
