Just got back from East Tennessee and the thriller in Neyland and don't want to rehash what's already been said but I feel the following mistakes were made that cost us the game (should never lose a game when other team gives you four turnovers):

1) Ainge should have never started. He was physically not mobile enough to protect himself and we wasted the entire first quarter with three straight three and out posessions.
2) After the INT touchdown, to start the third quarter, our defense failed to stop LSU but let them drive the field and change the momentum. I was at the 1990 against Florida when Dale Carter returned the second half kickoff for a TD and this turned a close game into a 45-3 route.
3)Our defense was terrible, giving up almost 500 yards total offense. Chavis consistently in close games in the fourth quarter is unable to make a crutial stop. This game, the Florida game this year, multiple games last year (Vandy,South Carolina, Bama) Not to mention the 2001 and 2004 championship games. It's time to replace him with a Gene Czhick, Will Muschamp type, IMO).
4) Have to reinvent our running game. Hard to believe only two years ago we had two 1000 yard rushers (Riggs and Houston). It may be that our OL is too weak or our RB's are mediocre.

As an aside, saw those "Would-Be-Pimp" LSU gay looking bunch sashaying in our place. Actually saw some UT fans asking to have their pics taken with this sorry bunch. Have we no pride!

Ainge looked good prior to the sack, it was our WR's that blew 3 straight possessions by dropping passes. I agree somewhat on the Chavis take. Sanders was held accountable, so Chavis must do the same. Losing Harrell was a huge blow, and also Tony Sluggo McDaniel going to the NFL hurt. I hate the mustang package crap and playing soft to keep from giving up the big play. You let them pick you apart by doing this. We have no difference makers on the D line like a Mahelona this year that can blow up the O-line and disrupt things. Morley is lost. He may be a great athlete, but he is lost in coverages and schemes. We better improve in a hurry, or Arky will have 200+ rushing against us and dominate time of possession, like LSU did, and wear our D down.

i think we lost to lsu because they scored more points than we did, but that's just me

I think Chavis may have to change his defensive philosophy some depending on his personnel. His philosophy on defense is to attack, stunt, swarm, etc. That worked great last year, but this year the defense is vulnerable when you play an option team, a running QB, etc.

Still leaving the defense on the field for 20 minutes in the 2nd half is going to kil any defense.

All of those drives could have stayed alive if not for dropped balls.
Would they? I haven't watched the TiVo but only one of them was 10 yards to my recollection. It was obvious when Erik had to roll out he was seriously disabled. Had I been his parent I would not have been happy that the coaches let him play. I didn't see him with the team on the Vol-Walk which was a bad sign.

Shouldn't they have been rested at the start of the second half?

im serious yo, we didn't score enough

games that we score 30+ we are 6-0
games that we score less than 30 we are 1-2

I saw him walking down right behind the captains. Looked to have a very slight limp, but nothing awful.

The missed short post to smith would have been a TD, he was already behind the safety. Even if they weren't 10 yards, a caught pass for 5-6 would put you in a better position to get a 1st.

The 24 points that we scored were more than Auburn(10) and Florida(23) scored in their victories over LSU!

dude...get off the defense and Chavis' back. Did you ever....ever think just maybe the defense was so damn worn out because the offense could substain a drive for over 3 mins? It was either 3 and out or a long TD. only giving our defense just a min to catch their breath. lay off of it man. of course their not going to be that great when their out there majority of the time. your best defense is an offense who stays on the feild

which gets back to your point, the defense. if we are going to leave our defense on the field for that long, we need to score 30 a game.

2 of those dropped passes would have resulted in first downs if caught. Can't blame that on Ainge. Maybe the receivers were trying too hard or maybe they just momentarily forgot how to catch. Can't hang it on Ainge, though.

The main reason the defense stayed on he field all night is because they couldn't stop LSU's offense.

LSU obviously has a very talented team, including offense. But we made them look like the 49ers out there.

or because we couldn't substain a worthy drive?

It's sir to you kid. They were not too tired at the start of the third quarter when we let them score two TD drives. Face it, our defense is not good. They were terrible againse a mediocre Air Force and against South Carolina and gave up a 10 point second half lead to Florida.

The reason they were tired was they (the defense) left the LSU team on the field. Except for the three punt on the Ainge possessions how many other times did Colquitt punt? One?

No doubt our D is not the greatest this year. Fortunately our O has stepped up. But typically we have great Ds and Chavis does a great job IMO. We've lost to two top teams, but 1 pt and 4 pts. Get over it. I was as disappointed as anyone over the loss, but we are having a pretty good season with a depleted lineup and no running game.

And please leave the "sir" formalities at home. This is a fan forum.

Bret Smith would have scored a TD on his drop... he was behind the coverage and it hit him in stride right in the hands. In my opinion, Ainge looked good on the first 3 drives.... the receivers looked horrible. Basically, when a qb needed his receivers to perform at their best, giving a little extra to help out an injured qb.... they did the opposite and sucked.

I love all this second guessing crap. It was good game with personnel that were available. Ainge is/was right guy to start. He would have settled down as he did in Bama game but reinjuring didn't give him chance. I am really impressed with Crompton's play vs a tough defense such as LSU's. He made some freshman mistakes but hey he made some really nice plays too. Defense got beat on the last drive. What ja gonna do. LSU ain't no push over and I for one am impressed with their play overall. They never gave up and it was a hell of game.

LSU knew we couldn't run the ball and that allowed their DBs to mug our receivers all night long(and our WRs looked like they 2005itus). LSU has a man among boys at QB, taking all those hits and still getting passes off! The fake punt was the biggest thing that hurt us + the fumble that "Mr. Cry Me A River Miles" forgot to mention in his whinefest about refs. Otherwise it was one of the best games I've watched all season ...except for the final score.

bottom line is the D didn't show up. Crompton made the plays to get the W, and Ainge did nothing wrong while he was out there. 2 of the catches would've been 1st down, one would've at least been a HUGE gain, the receivers just dropped the balls. Letting a team sustain a 7 1/2 minute drive to end a game is bad for any defense no matter what the situation is. chavis needs to learn to scheme for the talent he has and the team he is playing, not using the same scheme over and over

I tend to agree. The time of possession was something like LSU 42 and Tennessee 18. The defense let LSU control the ball too much.

so what about the no fumble infront of our bench by Russell on the last drive? We get that call, game over.

I agree we didnt put up huge numbers and we didnt give our defense enough time to rest but two things.

1) we cant run the ball

2) ryan carl keeps his assignment in zone coverage and game over.

Exactly. TN lost to a better team; that was apparent. But I think the biggest surprise, at least to me, was that LSU's offense controlled that game so much.

We knew with a frosh QB that our offense would be limited, but the defense is responsible to get the other team off the field. And unless Russell threw it to us, we never stopped them all night.

The third and longs were terrible. I don;t care how talented anyone is.
