Hole 12 -- Par 5. After six minute wait on tee, drives into right rough, lays up with second shot to under 100 yards to the hole. Pin tucked behind right bunker, flies approach over pin, sucks back to 15 feet. Downhill putt races 7 feet past, but makes par save to remain 1 under.

Par 3 14th...PAR -1 thru 23

She needs birdies folks.

Hole 23

Hole 14 -- Par 3 226 yards, uses fairway metal, comes up just shy of the green by about a yard, ball plugs, so she gets free drop. Using her putter from about 50 feet, she lags 2 feet short, makes par to stay -1 for the day.

I for one love watching the U.S. Open and the Masters every year. I hope she doesnt make it just for the reason she doesnt belong there. What I mean is she hasnt won a LPGA event yet what makes u think she can win a PGA event. She is a great golfer and all that but she needs to stick with the women and leave the mens game alone. If she makes the Open she will be all u see until the weekend when she goes home. :bad:

If she qualifies, she qualifies. The US Open is the premier event in the world and NOBODY backs into it.

80% of the field has zero chance of winning they tee it up. I completely reject the "She can't even beat the women" argument. She's only 16. Before it's over she's going to beat the hell out of a LOT of people.

Personally, I think she should have waited to go pro so that she could play against girls her own age. That would have allowed her to actually learn how to win, which is something that she hasn't yet shown the ability to do even on the LPGA tour. However, the U.S. Open is called an "Open" for the very reason that anyone that qualifies for the event in the qualifying tournament is allowed to play in it. While I think that Michelle Wie would be better served playing in events that give her a chance to win, she will have earned the right to play in the U.S. Open if she finishes in the Top 18 in the qualifying tournament.

U are right before its all over she is going to beat alot of people, but at 16 she needs to stick with the women dont u think.

I do agree that she has probably been exploited a little and turned into a sideshow at times . . . but then again there haven't been very many teenage girls who can rope it out there 280+ consistently.

I guess my thing is that it's her talent and her life. Shouldn't she be able to choose what she does with it?

I about had a conniption when they cut into PTI to update her qualifying status.

Wie just had a Norman-esque choke job

No . . . Wie just fell a little short. In order to have a "Norman-esque" choke job, she would have needed to have about a 5 shot cushion with 9 holes to play and then shot about +7 coming in and missed the cut by one shot when somebody canned one from off the green.

When ESPN is cutting time out of other shows to see her three-put, I can call it Norman-esque.
