Unfortunately I don't see anyone coming within 20 points of this wnba team.

I of course want TN to win tonight and face UCONN, but you can bet Geno will not only try to beat TN he will try to annihilate us on national tv. If we get there his aim will be to beat us by 50.

Is that the first in the half?

I haven't watched many of their games, but I understand now why they get so many blocks. Apparently, decapitations are considered incidental contact.

I think they had just a couple before that, but the refs already decided to let uconn mug and hack until the game was out of reach. Unfortunate

Tennessee has zero chance. The only way to beat UConn is to get Stewart off the court in foul trouble. Since she is above getting fouls called on her and will go to the FT line about 10 times because the other team looked at her funny, it will be no contest.

I pity Brionna Jones or Bashaara Graves, whichever has next, for the frustration they are going to endure next Sunday.

Free throw attempts 19 to 5 for uconn

It's not just the 14 point differential at the line, but the refs refusal to call fouls in the paint on UConn and whistle Dayton players for fouling with their ponytails completely changed the way Dayton played on both ends of the ball.

I've never said this before, but this is a game where the refs 100% changed the outcome of a game not just with 1 or 2 calls, but with how they called the entire 2nd half. Disgusting!

Smokey needs to dress up as a Big Mac and distract Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis
during the game.

It reminds me of the old McD commercials with Grant Hill. But are you really willing to sacrifice Smokey like that?

I will say that any player who gets beat off the dribble by KML must surely be smacking their head against the wall in embarrassment.

Having said that, I really do wish she was wearing orange...

I've never seen so many over the backs not called.

Stewart has been called for 62 fouls - 1.7 per game. Graves has played almost identical minutes, been called for 72 fouls - 2.0 per game. Not a huge disparity. Are the refs protecting Graves too?

Dull minds usually resort to name calling or comments about appearance. Know this - Mosqueda-Lewis plays 28+ minutes per game. The most minutes on the team.

She would run your sorry ass into the ground.

I agree. In a post game interview he was asked about "letting up" and he said something along the lines of - not in the tournament because he believes that maintaining momentum is an important key to winning a NC.

Wow - Dayton showed what a good offense run by players that buy into it fully and share the ball can do to a good defense. That was an impressive showing by a 'mid-major' - much better than a lot of more storied programs have shown against Uconn in the last few years.

Posted in another thread along these lines, but ... Dayton does not have better players than TN, but their players all take good shots in the flow of the offense. They also shot lights out in the first half, but that was mostly because they were taking wide open shots. Dayton scored more points than every other team Uconn has played in their last 32 NCAA contests except for one ND game when ND scored 72 and won, and another ND game where they only scored 67 in regulation but added another 16 in overtime and also won. Congrats to them, and I hope some P5 teams take lessons on how to run offense from Jabir. It would make WCBB a LOT better.

Andrea Hoover is better than any of the Tennessee guards, with the exception of Ariel Massengale where an argument can be made that she's just as good.

Reynolds and Carter are not good offensive players, either with shooting or decision making. I'd take Hoover over either of them any day of the week. Tennessee's offense ca look like crap when their posts are not scoring because you have players that don't want to put in the time to become efficient offensive players.

Amb - absolutely agree that Hoover is very impressive, but if we went back and checked the Dayton roster I believe that the only player on the team ranked in HS in the top 25 would be Malott and certainly if we did a comparison between their roster and the TN roster player by player TN supposedly got much better talent coming out of HS. I know HS rankings can be all over the place, but taken as an aggregate they become more meaningful. So what has happened since ... I believe the difference is the Dayton players have totally bought in to an offensive system that gets them good shots in good locations on the floor and gives them the confidence to make those shots. It works to each players strength. And the coaching staff is responsible for teaching and implementing and adjusting the system to and for them. And that at TN the offensive structure, system, and teaching is not doing the same for more talented kids. I know TN prides itself on defense and toughness, but you can do both at the same time - emphasize defensive stance and teach a dynamic team offense.

I don't buy into HS rankings at all. Much of it is due to what high profile AAU team you play for, or sponsorship. Mitchell and Welch from SC were not highly regarded coming out of high school. Harrison was middling. Stefanie Dolson from UConn was rated about as highly as Kortney Dunbar. IIRC, Alana Beard couldn't even get looked at by UT or UConn. There are a lot of really good HS players with great college potential that won't get a look because they don't have the right connections. I know that pro potential and college potential are two different beasts, but it's always interesting to see which players show up in the WNBA first round that weren't on the radar in HS.

I do agree that Dayton's offense is a thing of beauty and it maximizes the capabilities of the team's individual components. I would also bet that not one girl in that starting lineup christens herself as a "defensive specialist" either.
