Ever since Bruce has stepped foot on campus we have had PG issues ( except year 1 when Bruce inherited C.J. Watson ). Will he ever realize teams win in the NCAA tournament with great PG play?

He recruited Ramar Smith & we all saw how pathetic he was in late game situations & shooting the ball. IMO, he was a good on ball defender & a very good slasher to the rim but just couldnt finish.

He gets Bobby Maze ( who is suppose to be the " Solution " ) & he is'nt a good on ball defender & never wants to slash to the basket & make something happen. He does have a better shot than Ramar Smith.

Now we have Daniel West becoming eligible for next season, granted none of us know how he will end up. He could come in & be a great PG for us & be what this team needs but im going to go out on a limb & say that he will struggle next year getting acclimated to the college game, which will be an another excuse for most Vol fans as to why this team could very well be underachieving again next year.

So i say until this team & Bruce Pearl finds a true PG we will continue to struggle through the season & in the NCAA Tourney.

this offense revolves around guard play, we all saw what happened the last three years with terrific guards, and at times this year. practically unbeatable. but we just dont have anyone to drive and draw attention and kick out. lead alone have someone make consistent 3s

I've seen him play, and he is a true PG. I'm not saying he'll be great, but he is a true PG. Not a combo guard or a SG converted

Aaron Craft, class of 2010, is a true point guard. Heard he is also an excellent defender. Can also be a great leader. This year he was starting quarterback for his football team, and he led them to the state championship game.

Lol at craft ever being anything more than a career backup

I can't wait for that class to get here. We already have two of the premier players in the nation and a decent PG in Craft.

Using a scholarship on Aaron Craft is every bit as brilliant as signing Marques Johnson and bringing Tony Passley to campus.

I'd kill to have Ramar back for this season and the next. He wasn't the main reason the Vols were successful last year, but I'll never understand how people can claim he was "pathetic" as he was the starting PG for the majority of the season on a team that won the conference and won the most games in school history.

he had some offensive woes in his soph slump, but he initiated our defense because he could keep people in front of him and could absolutely overpower most PGs.

Ramar could drive the lane and kick... and that's about it on the offensive side. But he was a much better defender than Maze. Kid was built like a RB.

People were bitching about Ramar Smith when we had him now you upset he is gone. So many fickle fans. Why will Craft be a career back-up, because he does not have 4 or 5 stars or is it because he is white? You have no idea what you are talking about. If he is athletic enough to lead he team to state championship as quarterback he can do the same in round ball. We need pieces to the puzzle, not all of those pieces have to score lots of points. The point guard needs to be steady, able to set the tone defensively, and implement the plays CBP calls. Right now we do not have that at all. We have a bunch of guys who are all about show time lots of flash and zero sustenance. Seems to me, one of CBP toughest jobs to is getting his players to do what he asks, and play like he wants them to play. That is where a true point guard is so important - an extension of the coach. The current point guards are too selfish:boobies:

Hat, how do you think D. West will do next year for us? And anyone know his strengths and weaknesses?

Good call on Ramar, that guy could turn and drive on anybody. The biggest thing with him was free throw shooting.

I would like to see Bobby get switched to 2 guard and see either Tabb or West take starting point.

Ramar was great getting into the lane. He never left himself an outlet, though. It was as if he had a blindfold on. He ended up forcing up way too many shots or turning the ball over.

This is one of the single dumbest logic leaps I've ever seen on this site. Makes it look like being told by you that I have no idea what I'm talking about is a very good thing.

OBTW, everyone wasn't dogging Ramar last season.

Great post! I never thought about it that way. Guys what we need are championship football players on this team. Think about it, what have all great NBA championship teams had in common? That's right, Phil Simms.
