Legit question? He runs the spread, learned it from Rich Rod at WVU.

Happy? Sad? Mad?

Cinci has the number 1 duel threat QB interested in him... May be he can pull him in...

Not sure I want to see another spread experiment. Does anyone remember Dave Clawson?

I guess I'm just old and set in my ways, but I just really enjoy watching a pro-style smash mouth team.

With Peterman in the wings, I'm sure we'll see elements of a spread offense.

Yep...He most certainly will and that is about the only thing that excites me about this hire...UT finally gets with it and evolves.

The spread would be my biggest fear. As long as we dont run that garbage im in on this guy.

The thing I love most about our fan base; that this is the only tactical thread regarding this hire. All of the other ones are just people complaining. The rest of this offseason will be hilarious.

Not sold on the spread. This is my one main concern. For the most part, SEC defenses eat up the spread, because they are the only defenses with the speed to keep up.

If Butch can recruit some SEC speed, we might just stand a chance running the spread. I mean, Florida runs it and they don't just stay above water, they thrive. So yeah.

The spread allows you to do more with less talent. So yeah, bring on the spread!

Haven't watched Florida much this year have you? They dropped the spread a couple years ago! 👍

He needs to look at the players on this roster first. Right now we are more of a power run team especially if Hunter, Bray, Patterson leaves.

If he sacrifices a year or 2 to implement his system then he is gone.

Personally I am done with experiments, Clawfense, 3-4 def. He needs to look at his roster and look to win now!

The good thing is that he has done at his last two stops. I think he gets that.

Oops. Well, I meant more under Meyer. I know they don't anymore.

Should have said 'ran' not 'runs'.

Edit: But Texas A&M runs it. Right now. And it has worked. All I'm saying is it's possible for the spread to work in the SEC. Generally you have to be very special. But it can work.

It is a myth that a QB HAS to be mobile to run the spread. There ar elements and versions of the spread that favor a mobile QB but it can be run without one. I am constantly amazed how the people that complain hardest about something always know the least about it.

Florida switched to a pro-style when Muschamp came aboard.

As for Butch, I can see us sticking to what he knows and that's the spread.

Power run team?? I don't think so. Do you remember the ridiculous Beast package. Hopefully that gets scrapped.

This. Guilty as charged. I often directly associate the spread offense with running quarterbacks. Not always the case at all.
