Will "It's Football Time in Tennessee" ever change?

My drunk ass would be laughing so hard if I heard someone yell this over the PA

Honestly, I haven't listened to the radio broadcast consistently since JW. He does say touchdown Tennessee with a certain inflection that makes it his "style", I think?

I agree 100%. But most all on air talent (radio, TV or Live PA announcers) create and use their own catchphrase. Just wondering if this topic had been discussed. STAY CLASSY VOLNATION! :mf_surrender:

The intent behind my post was suppose to convey humor. Sorry, that doesn't come across on a message board very well sometimes.

I'd say that it now transcends PA announcers. Some of these traditions should be looked at as a university treasure. It's not just something we have always done. It's a part of who we are.

Arguably, it has long transcended the PA announcer position. John Ward regularly said, at the outset of a game broadcast, "Wherever you are, it's football time in Tennessee."

Well most likely "Pay these prices and pay no more!" is gone...but keep "Its football time in Tennessee!"

Every tradition has a starting and ending point. Time to end this one and start another great one like "We gone wip dey *$$ up here on Rocky Top".

I can't imagine a game in Neyland without the phrase. It should not change.

Bobby Denton borrowed it from john ward. He didn't always say it. He traditionally said please pay these prices and please pay no more. Bobby Denton never said its football time in Tennessee until very late in his career.

Almost everything John Ward said had his unique inflection that made his own. Phrases that come to mind include:
  • "..at the 30,20,10,5,1 ... give ...him... six... touchdown Tennessee!"
  • "... and he's met by a host of Volunteers."
  • "... the kick is up ... and ... it's gooood!"
  • "Raynoch ....... Thompson!"
  • "Natural ...... Gas"

Officially the first post of yours with which I 100% agree.

Sorry if already discussed, but with a new PA anouncer and out of respect for Bobby Denton would you be in favor of a new catchphase or is " It's Football Time in Tennesse" something that should never change?

IMO it should NEVER be changed, but I could understand a difference of opinion. I'll hang up and listen. :hi:

Sure, it should be..... right after they drop the color orange, remove the checkerboard end zones and tear down Neyland.
