So very much of what happened last year on D can not be put on the players.
They had the tools, but some fool gave them the diagrams upside down.
Those "big plays" would not have happened if the d was gang tackling. They would have been blown contain and should have only resulted in 5-7 yards.
The kid plays with a never relent attitude, you cannot fault him for that.
I think he has likely been given better direction to focus that unrelenting pursuit.
There will also be aa swarm of Orange to keep contain.

Frankly, I think Butch just sees Smith's physical characteristics and thinks he can play. But he simply is not good at reading plays and getting to the football. Maybe it will click for him this year, but I doubt it.
