Ok stop laughing for a minute. If you or your kids have ever played lacrosse you can see the attraction, lots of running, passing and a physical game, more so than baseball or soccer and track, 3 other spring sports.

It's blowing up here in the Midwest and huge in the midatlantic and northeast

There are some youth lacrosse leagues here in DFW. Some kids that played baseball with my son last year skipped baseball this season to play lacrosse.

I have watched it on TV. Looks fun.

It's possible, but youth soccer has been pretty big for like 40 years and it's still not a very big spectator sport.

If the demise of football happens, it's possible a sport like lacrosse could grow. But it would take a long time, and that's IF football starts to decline.

Lacrosse is a club sport at UT and has been one for at least since the early 90s. It will never be anything more than a club sport in the SEC because of title 9. Even though it is a club sport, its very competitive.

The SEC is well represented in Lacrosse by UT, Vandy, Auburn, USC and UF. UT vs Auburn is historically a heated rivalry game and draws good crowds

The Southeastern Lacrosse Conference has teams from both ACC, SEC and even small random southern schools. The SELC championship tournament was held this past weekend in Alpharetta, GA and I think Va Tech won it.

While it is a club sport, the lacrosse is good enough to challenge lower level D1 programs.

Some of the good HS programs in TN (off the top of my head) are MUS, CBHS, Baylor Father Ryan and MBA.

Its a great sport for girls too

3 of my fraternity brothers played on the TAMU club team while I was there. One was from Houston, another from the Austin area, and one from the Minnesota. Many of the fans at the one game I went to had driven all the way from Lubbock(we were playing Tech), which is about 7 hours. The people that are in to it are very dedicated, which fits in with the SEC sports culture. I enjoyed it, despite knowing none of the rules or strategy, and it being about 25 degrees. I think it's definitely growing.

I always looked at lacrosse as a game for kids that weren't athletic enough for football or basketball, too slow for soccer, and just not interested in baseball.

No club team in America will challenge any D1 lacrosse team. The powers in the club lacrosse world (Colorado State, Santa Barbara, Sonoma State, Arizona, etc.) can challenge D3 and some NAIA schools, but that's about it. If you're talking about Michigan, that program was on its way to varsity status like a decade ago and prepared accordingly (recruiting, academic advising, strength program, and facilities).

I just found out that my local NAIA school has lacrosse and I watched a few minutes on Sunday. It looks fun.

I hope it does. Growing up in NY lacrosse is pretty big. I've always enjoyed watching it.

UT used to play VMI very close and if any top SELC team played Mount St Marys (a bottom dweller D1 Program) it would be a toss up. UT always played UM close and actually beat Col State in the late 90s

Well they are all in the top 10 rankings for HS lax in TN

And you would be wrong

It’s hard to miss Gonzaga’s Richie Petitbon on the lacrosse field

The Alabama-bound lineman who spends his springs in the center of the Eagles’ attack was the difference-maker in Gonzaga’s 8-7 win at home that clinched the WCAC regular season title.

I lived in PA my sophomore year of high school and they had men and women's teams, and we played lacrosse in gym class. It was decently fun to play but I never really got into it.

I don't know who Will LaCrosse is but tell him to eat lots of protein, stack his amino acids, and hit the free weights like a maniac. That should help him get big no matter what country he is in. Best of luck to him.

search on youtube for what George Carlin has to say about lacrosse

you'll either be deeply offended or you'll slowly nod your head in agreement

I'll take your word for it, though I'm highly skeptical. Especially because I've seen D2 Mars Hill absolutely rape SELC teams, including UT.

Its not real popular here in Texas. Its kinda like men's/boy's soccer. Soccer is played still, but not through the every school. If Lacrosse was to ever get added to the standard set of sports that are options at the high school level, I'd say it would have a chance. Until then, Universities are not gonna pursue it based on lack of perceived funding, and recruits.

Any chance of UT and the SEC adding Lacrosse, the fastest growing sport to its varsity program? I know it's probably a long shot for the next 5 years but wondering if anyone else has thoughts

From a strictly historical perspective, the "Little Brother of War," as the southeastern tribes used to call lacrosse, should have been a varsity SEC sport long ago.
