Will the offense be better or worse?

I saw plenty of times where people were calling for the OL's heads. How come no one ever pushed for playing time? If these guys will benefit from being a year into the system, why were some people saying they weren't that good instead of saying the system was hurting them (old 5)?

Those guys had a million starts and was a very, very good OL. Again, they kept the team from looking as bad or worse than UK. I'm not saying that in 2 or 3 years these upcoming guys will be good, I'm saying next year, especially early, it will be a huge drop off. That's like saying Bray made some bone head plays and never won a big game, but we got 1 vetern all star and 3 very talented freshman behind him so no huge worries.

If they don't have great QB play and the backs step up more than they did this past year, the new OL will get demolished against good defenses because our last OL barely kept that from happening.

Again I'm not talking about in 2 or 3 years I'm talking about just next year how they will hold up.

It can't be much worse. QB play has to improve(if there's anything worse than what we saw last year, ouch). I think the running game will be better. Between Lane and the talent we have coming in. WR play should improve. OL will be about the same or slightly worse IMO.

Next years OL doesn't have to do much to outdo the performance of this years OL. That's obviously a shot at last years guys.

Having said that experience is huge. But if the guys on the OL can gel quickly and just be serviceable next years offense can be better. I think the OL is the key to the offense being better.

QB, RB, and WR will all be better as we only lose Neal but are adding Hurd, Paulk and hopefully one more RB to this years class.

It comes down to Dobbs and Ferguson for the QB position. Dobbs will improve but Ferguson will have the chance to overtake him. Dobbs is the better runner but Fergie is the better passer. Should make for a good competition this spring and fall.

No matter the personnel, the second year in a system should help the offense improve significantly. The Oline will be fine, maybe even improved, and we are upgrading at the skill positions with Pearson and Hurd. As it usually does, QB play will determine the overall success of the O.

I agree with some of the posters, in that the QB play will be very important. If we can't complete passes, the opposing defenses will just stack the box like they did last year. We can't ask the O line to successfully block 7 to 8 defenders who are blitzing. My opinion is we need quick hitting plays to lessen the pressure on the O line.

But...but..but...

"BEST Coaching Staff in America"

And...

"WE are TENNESSEE!" ??!!

I equate the "Best Staff" quote to the following

"I am not a crook"
"Read...My...Lips, No new taxes"
"If you like your health plan, you can keep your health plan"

I will be darn!!!!!! Well, on the other hand it's Count, so. . . . But someone who didn't blindly and arrogantly anti-Obama-ize a post but made it clear that a politician is a politician no matter what party they belong to or who they are. Freaking liars, all of them.

With better QB play, we'll improve offensively. I can't see a reason why we wouldn't have a very competent option at this position in Year 2. Between North, Pearson, Howard, and Croom, we'll be at least consistent, if not exceptional, at WR. Helm and Wolf will be a huge boost at TE, too.

One thing that bothered me about the OL was that weird tap the guard would give the center before he snapped the ball. Seems like the DL could jump the snap every time because of this. Can we get rid of this or is it here to stay in CBJ's offense??

Come on, Count. Nobody with a shred of intelligence thinks this is the best staff in America, but what is CBJ supposed to say about his staff? "I've assembled a mediocre staff with questionable credentials and little to show for results in the SEC on their respective resume's". It's funny how coach speak is perfectly acceptable until you lose a game or two you're supposed to win.

When its 3rd and 2 and your QB can't complete a pass to Mother Earth, do you expect the defense to respect the pass? They ran for more yardage than they have in a long time, and this was WITHOUT the all star passing game from last year. What set of 5 is going to good enough that we won't miss them that badly?

When it is 3rd and 2 and the OL cant block the defense to get a first down on 3rd or 4th, the OL has to be better in 2014. However, the offense will be better because we will have a RB who will be able to run over a tackler or two, WRs who can run correct routes, WRs who will catch passes, TEs who can block and catch the ball which will open up the WRs and give more space for the runners, etc. Also, look for the defense to be better because the offense will keep the ball for longer periods of time.

USCe was a signature win. Beating a ranked, Steve Spurrier coached team with the #1 overall draft pick playing his best game of the entire season is a signature win no matter what moron on this message board might say otherwise.

I would say a victory over FLA or UGA would be bigger. Also, Clowney has dropped to #4 in most mock drafts.

You spend way too much of your life, trying to come up with a clever way to deride an innocuous statement...feed your pets! :)

With Maggitt, AJ and a slew of talented recruits, LBs will be much better. Upgrades at CB, and Nickel will make Secondary will be much better too.

As far as DL goes, we are replacing experienced but not so talented players with inexperienced but highly talented players, so that is a wash.

All things considered, Defense will be much better...about 7-10 points a game.

On offense, we have injury concerns but better talent at RB with Hurd, Paulk , Scott?, Lane, Pickett, Hill and Summerhill.

A QB will probably show much improvement and distance themselves from the heard. Hard to say which one though.

WR will be better to due to experience and new recruits.

Oline is a concern but I think run blocking will be fine. First few games will be a challenge at pass protection though. Jackson, Wiesman, Kerbyson and new JUCO Blair are gonna be awesome once they get the playbook all figured out.

By default and due to recruits, TE position should be much better.

Kicking is always a concern but the kid from Lewisville should be a good one.

Recruited team speed will make kick coverage much better.

people that don't consider the SC win can't differentiate it from their Vandy disappointment. Good win against a top 10 team right in the middle of recruiting momentum and the biggest win in several years.

I agree with most of what you posted however I disagree with the O-Line. I believe that all the underclassman will surprise a lot of people have served in the system for 2 yrs will play dividends. I think we will be pleasantly surprised in the O-line next season.

TE and Special Teams are where I'm concerned. Everyone will be basically new.

:hi:

Tennesseeduke

By default TE will be better and Special Teams will have much more team speed for coverage.

I agree about the O-line have 2 years in the system. There were times this year where our guys weren't comfortable blocking for zone read. I think it took Tiny down a notch or two.

Also about the S&C, especially for OL: we will be another year removed from checking off the boxes and pencil-whipping weight room training.

If the OL is close to the same or better offense will be far better. The upgrade at WR is tremendous as well as TE and hopefully the addition of Hurd at Running back. Qb should be better mainly because of the better skill players surrounding him.

Bet we will be better, but with talent young faces and Juco transfers, its difficult to say how much better. Can't wait to see the O/W game.
