I sure hope this defense does not show up. How is it that our defense has carried us for the last 5 years, and played horrible tonight?

You would think being a top rushing defense a year ago, we would be able to adjust better.

Because the defense that plays against option teams and the defense that plays against other offensive styles are two different defenses.

The Florida game will be very different. We are used to playing against Florida's offense. The Flexbone $*** was jsut annoying. Although I give them credit for executing perfectly, it still is very annoying. The Offense, for the second straight game, looked awesome. Hardesty has definately proven himself. Ainge plus Meach, Swain and Rogers are making noise also. PRAY FOR INKY!!!

Defending the triple option requires a mindset that is counter to everything most defenses are built on (attacking, swarming, aggressive). It's no wonder it gave us fits.

I believe that a #11 ranked team should not have to depend on a team not even ranked to miss the two point conversion to win the game. When will we ever get away from depending on other teams to beat themselves? I want to see us dominate like we are capable of. Florida, Georgia, Bama, & Vanderbilt???? We need to get it together. Go Big Orange!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto on the offense, Ainge had some great numbers and Hardesty is going to be a monster.

Isn't this what Bear Bryant ran at Bama?

9 passes all game? Is this not the same offense used by High Schools with out deep threats? I mean I love the Vols and am excited about our team this year, I was spooked about this game.

Like I said earlier, their formation threw us off. It wont happen again because we wont play anymore teams that run the flexbone. The D will be ready for Florida's spread.

I agree.

Everything I read all week pointed to the fact the AF was going to give our defense fits. We got the W, and move on next week to a more conventional offense.

I am more concerned with our special teams... we need to really work on some things there. But all in all, we are still much improved from last year.

UT hasn't had a lot of success in the past against option teams i.e. KSU, Nebraska, etc.

UT doesn't play against the option often, and as a result doesn't defend it well.

I thought Chavis had turned the corner last year, with the prowler defense, which doesn't allow the QB a read on the DE.

If the CB can force the option inside and stops it from getting outside, its usually doesn't have a lot of running room. Was that the problem tonight?

I wonder if Meyer will retool his option passing attack to take advantage of some weaknesses in the running game tonight? I suspect he we change his play calling to a degree, and he might add a play or two to take advantage of some obvious weaknesses exposed tonight.

This was a good tune-up game for Florida. Gives UT an opportunity to see how they match up against a real option team, before playing Meyer's version of it.

I agree.I'd throw numerous plays in there as well.We never adjusted the entire game tonight. Were any key defensive players out for us tonight prior to the start of the game?

What was so bad about special teams other than the one onside kick? I'd attribute that more to just the ball bouncing the wrong way. Plus, it was just an outstanding onside kick.

Can't run the Prowler against a Triple Option team though. We'd get absolutely killed by the fullback dive.

We will be fine next week. If Ainge hadnt thrown a INT late we would have went up by 21. The Flexbone is something we hardly ever see. We will be ready for Florida.

COUNT ON IT.
