Will there be football in 2020?

was quoted by SDS as saying we will not have fans in the stands this fall. Wow, what a bold statement. Contrary to what he's saying, SEC campuses, with Vandy being the exception, have all said students will be back on campus this fall. I'd say football season is a go with fans in the stands......no doubt in my mind. Somebody needs to reel this guy in..........

It’s funny how the disease expert had such little credibility amongst people who are dying to see football played. I mean, he’s just a disease expert...

Guys. There is literally 0.00% chance of a college football season this Fall. Why?

(1) Covid-19 isn't miraculously disappearing;
(2) There won't be a vaccine by the Fall;
(3) Crowded stands with fans shoulder-to-shoulder is an impossibility;
(4) Teams playing in empty stadiums also impossible. The legal liability is a non-starter to "force" kids to play.

Adjust your mindset. Find another hobby.

Hopefully, we'll get either a vaccine, herd immunity or viable treatments prior to the '21 season.

Then 50k+ of us will stand in the streets and protest the stupidity and watch the game on our phones outside the stadium while NOT social distancing.
At least be realistic if you want to make an argument. There would not be even 10,000 people outside Neyland if UT says no fans may attend. The most they can get for a protest in Nashville to open up is about 100 people.

Think all the families who lost loved ones to swine flu should sue all the experts since they didn’t do a darn thing to save their lives.

He is also the head of the task force to reopen UT campuses. Clearly he makes a huge distinction between allowing students on campus and allowing fans to pack Neyland.

90k for half a day for 8 days versus 28k plus thousands of faculty and support staff for most of if not all of the day for 3 months. Which is worse?

I would have to agree with Dr. McCullers, my daughter is an ID MD for the USAF, you don't want Covid-19, I just moved back to Tennessee and was looking forward to being in Neyland, but not at the risk of infecting anyone or being infected. Until a vaccine is available, distancing, mask and washing your hands is the best solution, this is one nasty virus, imagine someone ripping your lungs out while you watch.......that is COVID-19.......at a risk of not be crude....this is some nasty @$$ stuff.

There isn't a Vol Fan that doesn't want to see this team live on the field, but to risk your health or someone else........nah......not worth the pain and agony my family would incur if I were to leave this earth a little too early.

You know he is the guy in charge of deciding to allow students back on UT campus right? He heads the task force that made the decision to allow students to return. Clearly he doesn't equate students on campus with fans in the stands. This is what he said on the matter:

“You’re not going to have spectators in Neyland Stadium this year,” McCullers said on the show. “That’s just not going to happen. Whether people want to think it is or not, it’s not going to happen. I’ll tell you that. The question is: Do we play football without spectators?

“Interestingly, I’m being told that’s going to be a conference decision and that the university presidents, who are going to have influence over the conference decision, obviously, are going to abide by what the conference decides. So UT is waiting to see what the SEC says about if there’s going to be football or not. It will be really interesting if some conferences say they are going to have football and maybe the SEC does and just plays each other, or something. The landscape is really fascinating.”

Not sure letting students on campus necessarily has anything to do with whether it's a good idea to pack 100k people into a stadium.

If you think you can compare the zeal for opening businesses in Nashville now with the zeal for college football for the fall then this isn't even worth discussing.

No vaccine for the common cold or flu has ever been 100 percent effective. So, you will never see a game in Neyland again.

I'd be shocked if there's any significant # of fans in the stands. Maybe they can do some crazy scheme where they get maybe 20K people in there, but honestly we'll be lucky to get a season at all (with empty stands).

There's almost certainly going to be a 2nd wave at some point, as well. No clue what happens when it hits.

Gene Smith the AD at Ohio St made a comment recently that he didn’t think it made sense to play games without fans in attendance. Of course if it’s either that or not playing at all I’m sure he wouldn’t scrap the season
If any Athletic department could afford to not have a football season it would be Ohio State’s.
