Will this team implode? Heart check!

We won't implode but the question is will we be above average and beat 3 of the 6 teams as shown below. Assuming UTSA, UCONN and Vandy should all be wins. Considering we don't play well on the road, November could be very depressing if we don't take care of business against the Gamecocks and Aggies. All the goodwill earned by last year's squad could be washed away in a hurry if we lose to South Carolina. UTSA, we need a complete and productive game on both sides of the line of scrimmage and appear to have some semblance of an identity on offense. I have no idea and wouldn't want to wager either way. Will be interesting to say the least.

I had us at 8 wins this year. Gonna stick with that, but in all honesty, I think 7 might be more realistic. Not calling for wholesale changes, but it's time for a focused intent to get the younger players some seasoning. Won't be geting blowouts to use so start putting them in with the current starters early and often. If this is how our "upperclass starters" are going to play, I see no reason to lose with seniors/upperclassmen. I'll take my lumps with the kids and focus on the future.

Fulmer was 5/17 vs UF, 29% hardly impressive. Funny how you said “multiple” vs stating the record. Phil squandered many teams (several ranked) with superior or at a minimum equivalent talent.

My point is valid.
You don’t think there’s a difference between losing to Spurrier and Meyer versus losing to Mullen or Napier? I’ll give you a hint: there’s a drastic difference.

Now go on and give me the rest of his record against them…

The point still stands that Fulmer has always been judged by his inability to beat Florida, and to a lesser extent Spurrier himself. UF was always a thorn in Fulmer’s side, but he typically brushed off those losses and had decent, successful seasons. So for people to jump up and shout ludicrous things about firing CJH, which they already have, is insanity.
Now go on and tell me how losing to Napier with a team that went 6-7 last year is no worse than losing to Steve Spurrier and a #1-ranked team, or Urban Meyer and a #1-ranked team.

I never said it was worse. But saying Heupel needs to be let go, which some of these nutcases are already spouting, is an embarrassment to themselves and the program. Firing Heupel after year 3 because he lost to Florida would set the program back 20 years. Saturday was inexcusable, but not a fireable offense.

Maybe they’ll start caring when the people footing the bill get tired of being ignored and the stadium is empty.
We went through Dooley, Jones, and Pruitt. Not once have they listened. And if one loss like this to Florida causes people like you to never enter that stadium again, maybe there is something good from the loss. We don’t need naysayers bringing down all the good Heupel has brought in. This team isn’t good. And everyone saying it was going to be was still drunk on last season’s success. We’re still playing with 2020’s and Pruitt’s remaining classes. All the talent is in our younger guys that are getting prepped and developed for future successes. If facing heartbreak this season in an 8-4 finish means the next few years will bring success and potentially trophies, I’ll happily add some damage to my liver over the next few months.

I also had 8 wins with losses to UF, A&M, UGA, and Bama. I still think 8-4 is our finish, even after Saturday. But that said, like you, reality also says 7-5 is a major possibility.

Show me how you handle adversity and I’ll tell you if you have leadership or not in that lockerroom. We still don’t have it. Maybe better than last year. You’ve still got kids distracted instead of being vested in having a special season.

Missouri is scary. I thought they would be a potential loss/trap game coming into the season. People called me crazy. Doesn't seem as crazy now.

Blaming recruiting classes from four years ago is a classic example of the enabling mentality that got us in this mess. Saban won twelve games his second year and a NC his third. Meyer won a NC his third. That’s what a top coach does. Even a bad coach can do it when he recruits well a la the two clowns at LSU. We haven’t recruited well enough and still aren’t, and we sure as hell ain’t developing. That’s why people who can see are upset - not one game.

Being at the game, that’s what stood out to me the most. There just didn’t seem to be any emotion on the sideline. I didn’t see anyone trying to get others fired up and compete, just seemed to be going through the motions.
Coaches didn't seem fired up, Heupel seemed like, oh well, we lost, on his TV show. Idk. Something was off about the whole thing. Hadden letting the RB score? That seemed intentional to me. In today's world, everything seems weird...

Or... has college football become like the NFL. It's all about the money...

2014 Ohio state and Urban lost against a vastly inferior opponent in VA tech and it was at the Horseshoe. This team can still win it all or at least go 10-2. The other loss can’t be Bama

And that is almost always something in the locker room. Something is rotten in Denmark, I mean Knoxville

Spurrier is so vaulted by Florida fans they named the stadium after him. But he only won 1 NC which is the same as Fulmer. The Vols knocked Spurrier and the gators out of a the NC ( don't remember the exact year) and that is why I think Spurrier hates Tn so much. The thing I remember about Fulmers time at TN he made us relevant again. He had good recruiting years, great winning percentage, often in the talk about NC and finally won one.

It’s a gut check for the coaching staff as much as it is for the players.
This team had high expectations.
NO EXCUSES!!

My heart tells me we are 7-1 when UGA comes to town.
My head tells me we are 5-3 though.

Honestly, with everything we lost from last year and knowing going in the QB situation, 8-4 isn't a terrible year...is what we want, by all means no.

I still say there is a chance things come together, realistically, and we finish 9-3.
