Will we ever see term limits on congress?

Increase for adequate representation. fframers wanted 50-60k per Rep. We're at 1 Rep per 700k.

360,000,000 ÷ 50,000 = 7,200 Congressional Reps needed.

Be honest. You just want a retirement gig.

Not until libertarians control either the house, Senate, or both

Term limits without a constitutional ammendment: Make Congress abide by the laws they pass; balance the budget EVERY year; change their pay packages to reflect that of a (you pick) employee; figure out and stop what enables them to enter political office milionaires and become multi-milionaires while in office; Drug test and make public; Make it to where they must resign current office prior to running for a different office; Make them fly commercial within the US.

On second thought, maybe an ammendment would be easier to pass.

3 consecutive terms for Senators (18 years); 6 or 7 for House Reps (12 - 14 years).

Should be sufficient to thwart E-power and still prevent the career politician from becoming a complete tool of DC

Some are such tools they are the ones representatives of other states reach for when they want something done in their own. Amazing how they get re elected as if they're an effective representative of their own constituency.

So yeah, some form of term limits needs to come about.
Get rid of the sharks, pirahannas, and monsters who prey on the gullible and incompetent; who also need to be jerked out of there.

Is trump going to backpedal on his support for term limits too?

i have no clue if Trump ever believed he could get term limits passed It seems darn near impossible to pull off and I suspect he knew that from the start and just tossed it out to the uneducated masses to get votes. The problem is that getting congress to essentially self impose a restriction is highly unlikely. We can hope I guess!

There has been a "Duncan" as our congressional representative in East Tennessee since the early 60's. First father and then his son. I have voted against this current tool since he first ran. They have tried to groom Duncan the 3rd to take his place, but he F'd up and got caught with his hand in the till of Knox county. Of course he got judicial diversion and had his slate wiped clean, so when daddy steps down he'll run for office and people won't remember what he did.

10 years max for any legislator and no benefits would make the job a lot less desirable.

If he knew he couldn't get it passed, then all he has to do is make an honest effort. Something the entire US can say "he did what he could." When it doesn't happen it will be on Congress, and hopefully be more motivation to not re-elect the same political slugs over and over.

That kind of nonsense is exactly why I can't stand most politicians. Daddy fixes everything for jr, jr emulates daddy and the cycle keeps repeating.

I hope he tries too and honestly he may be just the right kind of person to get it done. I can see him playing hardball with congress just like he has in life. He says he is the best deal maker so who knows. I truly want to see him clean out the trash in D.C. and make those bums work for the good of the people.

The problem is nobody polices congress, and none of the hogs are going to give up a place at the trough. Congress saw passage of an amendment that set presidential term limits, but there is no other branch that can return the favor and trim congress, and we the people can only do it at the ballot box - but won't.

Apparently no one saw the conflict created by directly electing senators, and the power of congressional seniority and incumbency in elections. The favored positions gained through seniority appear to favor the voters but rarely seem to - minimal gain for the voter in return for maximal damage to the debt.

You can make an amendment without going through congress. Article V convention of states. States can vote on an amendment and Washington has no say on the matter

I know, but the likelihood of that is about the same as congress enacting term limits.

Ballot Box is not the only way. A Convention of States can pass a constitutional amendment without involving congress.

Which would be unprecedented in our modern age of politics; considering the last convention held was in 1787...I can't see this happening without a civil war going down first.
