Will we really be One of the Best next year?

I think we have the potential to be. Depends on how much progress Golden, McRae, Stokes, and Maymon can make in the offseason. We'll also need 1 or 2 bench players to step up.

There will be four very good players in the line-up (Stokes, Maymon, Golden, and McRae). Depth is an issue. Richardson, Yemi, Washpun, etc. will have to develop. Shooting ability is going to be another big question. We better be able to lock people down. Being a top 25 is not out of the question by any means.

McRae has done nothing to be included in that group of four.

Right now, McRae isn't even an average player. A few good games in a row doesn't change that.

I think McRae is in the top 4 raw talent wise. He is good at taking it to the hoop but takes way too many horrible shots.

We are going to improve and Kentucky is going to take a huge step back. Jones and Lamb only came back for uncertainty of NBA lockout. Teague will be Kentuckys best returning player imo. Davis, Jones, Kidd-Gilchrist, & Lamb will go pro and Miller finaly graduates. Wiltjer and Teague will return i think and while Calipari reloads Davis and Kidd-Gilchrist are defensive raritys for freshmen. What I am getting at is we should challenge to win the division with Vandy and Kentucky losing a ton and Florida will hover in the mix. South Carolina will be at ground zero rebuilding and Georgia they will struggle to say the least. LSU and Alabama as well as Tennessee with Kentucky and Florida will have oppurtunities to win the SEC. I believe our defense will ratchet up in year 2 and surely some folks will improve their shooting. I willexpect 20-25 wins depending on toughness of out of conference schedule.

With a full offseason It will be interesting to see how CM can coach these guys up!

We now know that CM can get subpar talent to play hard, but can he get significant improvement, I think he can but we will see.

Big question for me is can we get a true point guard who can shoot decent from the field and more importantly make 80%+ of his foul shots?

Yeah McRae needs to focus on how JP Prince played and that is his game. He has such length he is the one who can penetrate a zone and kick out with out ball being gobbled up by defenders. He has a better percentage shooting than Prince did but slashing and defense made JP a solid contributor.

I also think that a full off season of learning and improvement will be huge for Stokes, he and Maymon have the potential to be a "steel curtain" on the inside!!

Definitely capable of becoming black hole when comes to rebounding. Note to opponents only we get second chance points. You miss it is Maymons and Stokes ball.

I think the same weaknesses that haunted us in Dec. came back to bite us the last 3 games of the year. We will still have inconsistant pg play. Scratch our heads why we are not passing the ball to our post players. No guards that can create their own shots. And no outside 3pt shooting threats. I think adding a good pg can solve most of these problems.

I'm not sure if KY will go down that much - I'd love to see it, but I wouldnt count on it

Teague and Wiltjer i'd say for sure will be back - they bring in the #2 SG in the country, top 10 PF, and top 10 C

I also am not sure that Lamb or Jones will leave - I think Jones really hurt his draft stock and Lamb is relatively short for the NBA - not too short to play, just too short to go really high in the draft

also Gilchrist has said he is staying 4 years (don't believe it, but that is what he has been saying)

So I'd put them in the likely juggernaut column once again - guys leaving hasnt really affected KY any other year (with Calipari)

Kentucky will have Noel next season, who may be better defensively than Davis, believe it or not.

Fair enough. I guess we will have a idea when the players have to submit for draft.

I definitely find that hard to believe. Sheesh I hope not. Ok if we finish 2nd in division all to ourselves instead of tied 3 ways I think that will help our perception too. Everyone knew we were 2 seed by tie breaker but if we can get outright and get respectable out of conference wins we will set our selves up nicely.

Several things have to happen for us to get to the tourny next year.
1. We have to develope a zone defense to stop the runs, watch the last three games and you can see a blueprint on how to beat us. we play man so get all your players to the right except for the screen at the right top of the key. Have a quick 2 or 3 go to the left and down the far side of the paint, there is no weak side help to defend. If Vandy stuck with the zone at our house and followed this plan we lose. Kenedy had our number although aided by no calls on the push offs. So did Savavah and MTSU.

2. We have to have a true pg.

3. Someone that can shoot consistently. Just one will do it and then its not so bad if Trae, McBee, and McRae are sitting in the freezer before the game.

I feel as it stands we are probably in the top 20-30 range in the country. With our current roster and how each guy performed this year I feel that's reasonable.

If the roster stays the same and we are better than that either 1. CCM did another hell of a coaching job or 2. Some players really stepped up their game.

Now I believe strongly that if we as a PG like Fabyon Harris we are top 10-20 range. I truly feel that these are the biggest things missing on this team: a quick PG, good passing, good PG defense, a 2 that create their own shot, and better 3 point shooting. (obviously there's other things) by adding Fabyon I feel all those things i listed are immediately taken care of...JMO

Also, as deepsprings was alluding to, the other teams in the SEC will lose a lot. Vandy shouldn't even be in contention, and bama will also fall. Florida should e there as usual, but hopefully put dominance continues. One of the biggest storylines will be the roster shakeup at UK. There's a possibility they lose Teague, lamb, miller, jones, Davis, gilchrist and Vargas all. Right now they don have any of those elite guys coming in like MKG and Davis, they have some good committed but they aren't on the level of Davis and MKG IMO. Now that can change, they are in on some top talent, Noel's & Muhammad both have UK on their list and are 1&2 in the 2012 class. If UK lands both, it's right back to where they were this year taken wise. If they land just one well they'll step back from this year IMO, and if they miss on both they won't be one of the elite teams IMO. It'll definitely be interesting to watch what takes place.

My concern is Maymon will be a senior and Stokes may go that year too. I do not know how much Yemi can improve, but either way after next season we will be depending on a Freshman to go with Yemi unless we get a juco. With Armani coming in, how do you all see our Center position looking after 2012-13 season? I mention Armani because it is a spot taken on the roster with him being a guard.

It's going to be interesting to say the least IMO. I didn't take ccm for a 4 guard type but it's looking like a possibility.

You nailed it though, it appears well be relying on yemi and freshman down low in the 2013 season. Unless of course stokes were to stay. Many don't think it's possible but if we have a legitimate shot at a deep tourney run, and have a few of his Memphis busses coming in I could see him staying for his junior year.

It also leaves no room for foul trouble or injury even with Stokes. I guess we did ok Pearl's first year with a lot of guards, but I do not know how much he will use having 3 guards quickness to press.
