It’s my official opinion that coach Pruitt doesn’t care how many games he wins this year. I think he’s treating the entire season as a scrimmage. He’s playing guys to see who is the future. I’ve seen this before on a much smaller scale. The second half of the season could look very different than the first half.
I think you are right . I think it is more about the system and installation than the season. When you look at the vanilla running game a coach has to think if you cant execute a simple gap scheme , what would make him think your can run a counter trap ? If you can light a black cat , can you split the atom? Many of these guys , despite being juniors and seniors , have just not been taught fundamental football. I preach this over and over. Football technique , football strength, and football speed are cumulative. A coach doesn't just say some magic words or give you a special play or reveal a mystical secret . It is repetition after repetition ...rinse and repeat. It takes two years ideally. Many of our guys are as raw as they were out of high school. The results in the weight room at the same. Three months with the iron is not going to replicate 3 years with it . There is a lot of ground to make up . I see some improvements. More time is needed
Remember in Top Gun when Tom Skerritt asked Michael Irionside (sp on both?) "Would you want him as your wingman?" And without hesitation he said "I just don't know".Totally agree with all this^^^^.
I just wanna forget the frustrations of the past 10 years and ensure I, at least, don't project those frustrations onto CJP.Remember in Top Gun when Tom Skerritt asked Michael Irionside (sp on both?) "Would you want him as your wingman?" And without hesitation he said "I just don't know".
I don't disagree with it, but that Florida game hampers my optimism. Can't help it. I've been on Pruitt's side, and I still am, but that was worth a strike and a half for me.
I don't care what " the plan" is, IMO the coach I hope he is and turns out to be, doesn't let that happen. And if he does? He better do something between now and the end of November to earse my memory. That doesn't mean he has to preform a miracle either. Just give me a real reason to believe.... To be convinced... he's got this.
If nothing else, just play some damn good bad football. And you know that makes sense.
I'm not. I don't remember an uglier game from beginning to end by the Vols. Ever. I only made one prediction ( for the season) on VN and that was the beginning of the year. I predicted a loss to Florida. I was prepared for a loss, not what I saw.I just wanna forget the frustrations of the past 10 years and ensure I, at least, don't project those frustrations onto CJP.
No. I wasn't saying you are.I'm not. I don't remember an uglier game from beginning to end by the Vols. Ever. I only made one prediction ( for the season) on VN and that was the beginning of the year. I predicted a loss to Florida. I was prepared for a loss, not what I saw.
I'm saying, I wasnt saying you were saying I was saying, I was just saying. Lulz.No. I wasn't saying you are.
But, there are some in the ff that I believe are. Rather purposely or unwittingly, it's happening.
Sounds good to meCoaches in my life time, excluding Bowden Wyatts last year and Jim McDonald in 63.
Doug Dickey (Tn HC 64-69, 46-15-4) previous job was an Arkansas asst coach.
Bill Battle (Tn HC 70-76, 59-22-2) previous job was a Tennessee asst coach under Dickey.
Johnny Majors (Tn HC 77-92, 116-62-8) previous job was HC at Pitt.
Phil Fulmer (Tn HC 93-08, 152-52) previous job was a Tennessee asst coach under Majors.
Lane Kiffin (Tn HC 09, 7-6) previous job was an NFL HC(?).
Derek Dooley (Tn HC 10-12, 15-21) previous job was HC at LaTech.
Butch Jones (Tn HC 13-17, 34-27) previous job was HC at Cinncy.
Jeremy Pruitt (Tn HC 18-present, 2-3) previous job was an Alabama asst coach.
What's the point? I'll put my money on the guys with no previous HC experience.
Watchu think?
Exactly! Hiring a proven, successful headcoach is, I'll say it, impossible.I love how some people are still arguing about hiring a proven winning. Have they not been paying attention to the last two searches?
