Windy's football discussion thread.

A good post by a bammer.

"Bigger issue is who is going to take out Clemson in the ACC? The rest of the SEC is getting better."

Which is true, anybody can win on a given Saturday in the SEC while Clemson runs through a failing ACC and will be right back next year.
Nobody can afford to fret about Clemson’s competition or lack there of, especially Tennessee. Should focus on getting better players and getting better.

When Clemson can cake walk into the acc tournament and then into the championship, Tennessee is not getting those players. Someone needs to start beating them.

Clemson isn’t going to join the SEC so that’s why we can’t worry about who they play. Every winning coach says when asked about the team they’re playing that we are just focused on what WE do. Also they didn’t go directly to the championship game, they had to win the semi final game first. Too bad their opponent was Notre Dame but that wasn’t their fault.

Of course they aren't, they have no reason to. Why would they when again they cakewalk into the acc and Natty? Tennessee and any team can try to get better, but everyone needs the bamas, Clemsons, and the up and comers to start losing in order to get those better players you suggest. Tennessee is not going to make Bama look this bad like Clemson did anytime soon, let alone compete. Means those key players are going to the ugly orange.

Our seasons just like any other team will never matter with these two teams always winning and playing for Natty's every year.

Neither Alabama nor Clemson has always been on top. Like I said in order to beat them you have to get better players and get better. It’s not incumbent on Clemson or Alabama to allow other schools to become better than them it’s up to those other schools to make themselves better.

That some of our fans can turn what happened last night into a positive for pruitt, man, somebody gotta say something about that. I feel a thread coming on soon, by me most likely, letting everyone know ( imo ) that would have been a beat down even if Pruitt was still their defensive coordinator. Saban has ALWAYS struggled defensively when Clemson has a QB that can run and pass with a measure of effectiveness.. see Watson and Lawrence title game stats and points for evidence..

Guess what? Whenever we faced a QB with a little ability in both areas, our defense usually got boat raced..looked a lot like bama's D actually...man, against the spread ( with a QB that has a pulse ), you gotta be able to contain ( I didn't say stop it ) the run with 8 ( leaving 1 defender deep middle;free / a safety valve ), and those same lbs and dbs ( on the field ) have to be able to cover in man to man decently. They can't be getting smoked by 5 yards on routes, gotta at least make the QB have to make an accurate throw. Now, that's if you play man. There is also the zone option, as far as coverage goes ( still playing the run with all gaps covered and 1 single deep safety ), which should be utilized if you can't hold up in man to man. You gotta do something defensively, whether zone or man, to force the QB to go through more than 1 read and make either an accurate throw, or make a throw with a pass rush nipping at him...but you gotta make him go through at least 2 to 3 reads... something I thought we didn't do a very good job of last year defensively
