Winning the SEC

Most so-called experts are picking us 3rd in the East. Either Ky or Fla. are picked to win the division. I would think this is about right, at this point.

My gut feeling is that this UK team, especially without Kanter, will have lost 2 or 3 games before the conference season starts. I do think the Cats will challenge for the SEC by the end of the season, but its going to be a free for fall, IMO.

What's the general consensus among Uk fans regarding the Kanter ruling? Does he make it in or not?

Obviously, with the UK fanbase being mostly rabid and illogical, the consensus is that he will play and we go to the title game.

Personally, I have the feeling that the situation will be much like the Dennis Kilicli situation at WVU. If Kanter plays at all, It think its half a season were he is eligible from December forward.

However, thats only speculation.

I just don't see UK winning the East this year, with the Kanter situation and all.

The front court is thin, as is the overall depth up there.

I'm sure you know more than I do, but this is my gut feeling as a worst-case scenario. For a UK fan.

Nah, I really don't have an inside track. Just trying to compare the AA' previous rulings in such situations and apply it to this one. The president of the Turkish club will not release the "bank statements" to the public showing payment to Kanter, only to the AA'. He claims the AA told him he cannot , but anyone with a brain knows that the AA does not dictate Turkish professional basketball policy. More than likely, the statements are doctored and he knows they will eventually be discredited.

There is so much information out there both right and wrong, its hard to feel the pulse of the situation and know where the AA' is leaning.

Having tools like Pete Thameltoe running around spewing false reports and misquoting interviews doesn't help the public perception of the matter either.

This is the year for the Vols to make a run and pick up a regular season and conference tournament title. Don't see them going deep in the NCAA's though, but I hope I'm wrong about that.

I don't know about you guys, but I am no MM... lol, this thread is making me literally laugh out loud...

I really am beginning to wonder if Kanter doesn't get the Renardo Sidney or Nimrod treatment as an end result. Honestly, the kid absolutely destroyed Sullinger(among others) in the USA vs the world game. I was extremely impressed, and hope to see him and B Will bang for some boards this season. UK will proceed accordingly with or without Kanter though. With Cousins and PP bangin down low, they weren't intrigal parts of their offense, but were some of the best "get on the glass and get yours" duo's in a long, long time. Kanter will mean less offensive rebounding, but they won't miss out on pts in the paint or anything without him should he become ineligible.

I'd say you are probably dead on with Kanter not seeing the court til the conference season, which may be good for UK. No film for SEC opponents to prepare for that dynamic change in the way you will have to defend UK should Kanter hit the floor come January.

Go Vols!!!

I just don't see KY being as good this year. They will have a tourney team, but not be as good as last year's squad. You can win with freshmen, but Wall and Cousins were once a decade players as freshmen. Kanter, Knight, Lamb, Jones and Poole are excellent players. However, I thought that Wall and Cousins were 2 of the top 4 players in the nation last year. Cousins was a man among boys. He was as close to Shaq as the SEC has seen since Shaq. He was so strong (no homo). Florida deserves to be favored based on the typical starters returning off a decent record formula, but I honestly believe that UT is gonna be the best team. Brian Williams played like a beast in the tourney. Goins is better (and he was good). Harris is probably SEC freshman of the year. Tatum and Hopson are good (with potential to be really good) wings. Maymone, Fields, McRae, Golden, Hall, Woolridge, McBee, Bone, and Pearl are the deepest bench in the league hands down. Pearl should be the most motivated coach in the country. It is the year of the Vols. Mark it down.

I sure hope you are dead on with your call, although I see our team having its own issues. Right now there are 14 capable players vying for minutes in a 11 man rotation at most. Someone's feelings are going to get hurt. On the flip side, I could see us using different rotations for different matchups. Playing Bone, Pearl, and Mcbee to go small for our advantage, and playing Renaldo, Maymone, and Pearl... well, I guess pearl falls into both because of his hustle, but you get my drift... lol

Feelings will get hurt, and it is up to the staff to keep the "team" a "team" once the rotation is set. Depending on how they are playing, come December Maymone could disrupt or add to what we have going
