With all the talk by the media about our physical play, will that affect how the game is called?

Will the refs let us play or will we get called for a lot of bogus fouls? I can see us having players in foul trouble. Wouldn’t be surprised to see two quick fouls on Uros.

We have plenty of bugs for this game since they are ranked around 300 in D-1 for height. Just don’t let Mashack and Santi get into foul trouble. Please! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Yes, 100%. Waaay too much was made of our "physical" play against Duke. They took a couple of early fouls by Uros and threw in the incidental (no foul called) elbow by Aidoo that drew some blood and tried to paint us as the "Broad Street Bullies" of this year's tournament. It's a typically media-fabricated narrative that they will play-up for however long we continue to advance.

They draw in crayon.

Hacksaw,They do draw with a crayon, and they are pussies with a texting phone.Only way to be in the basement and shout as if they have ever done anything. No Duke player or the coach whined about the physical.nature of our play.No finess.Get into a position and not be moved.Thurs. night-Go Vols!

Saw someone make the point and it’s a great one, Bilas is just whining because it’s Duke and it made his beloved Blue Devils look soft. He called our game against Alabama this year and multiple times credited Tennessee with their physical play and how it effected Alabama, never calling it dirty or anything.

Hopefully, the status quo will remain for FAU, but if we end up facing MSU and Izzo, you can bet the farm that the officiating will flip for that one.

I do expect more fouls to be called in this game but not for the reason you think. FAU will be faster than us at the guard position, I could see us "grabbing and reaching" more this game which can lead to more fouls (that are actual fouls and have nothing to do with physicality).

Yes, the media is doing its crusading early and often to target spotlight Tennessee undeservedly. In this ESPN reseeding the remaining teams article:

Reseeding the Sweet 16: Who overperformed, who underperformed?

the writer says this about ON:

"And 6-foot-9, 236-pound Olivier Nkamhoua (27 points) bullied the Blue Devils, especially in the second half."

Nkamhoua needs to become a bully. He's too often too soft. They distort his offensive fireworks as Hulk on a mach Zamboni. His outburst was largely from open 3's, fall-aways in the lane, and some FT's. The weakside putback slam was authoritative finesse. He slithered in behind the defender and side-stepped contact. Vicious-looking and memorable but little to no contact.

So, yeah, I think the media is ballooning this purposefully and deceitfully.

No need to grab and reach. Trust your front court to help out. Don't need silly fouls among the back court especially against a team like FAU.

Let’s not blame the refs before the game is even played…I would hope and root for Tennessee to control the entire game where fouls, foul trouble, and free throws are not even an issue. The reffing has been pretty good this tournament, only people complaining are the players and fans of the losing teams.

It might be officiated with every ticky-tack foul called against us to start out. We're the big bad stripe shirts that won't let you get away with what Jay Bilas told us you did to his Dukies. The problem is, will the same apply to our opponent? I sure hope we get a fair shake on fouls, and the game is called the same for both teams. I'd hate for the refs to decide the outcome. I hope Barnes has a long talk with them before game time. We'll see.

The preemptive whining is annoying and sad.

Nothing wrong with our play, just play hard nose and smart. This isn’t powder puff basketball, we have gotten mugged ourselves at times this year. All the Duke game garbage from Bilas is just that. There was nothing flagrant about Uros move when Flip got a cut under his eye. In fact a flagrant call there would have been a horrible call there, some bad luck happens and that is what happened in that situation. We cannot let refs take us out of how we play, we are gonna keep playing aggressive tough D. That’s what we’re supposed to do! GBO!

There are several good reasons why TN could be beat. FAU could shoot lights out while TN isn’t. Somebody could get an injury. But the most likely reason that TN struggles to take care of business is if Vescovi gets held with nothing called, any contact on a big in the paint is a foul, and/or a couple of TN players have to sit with foul trouble. Minus those kind of whistles and I don’t expect FAU to win.

The more I look at it the more I believe that, in reality, by far the most egregiously wrong call made in the game was changing the foul called against Roach and giving it to Proctor. The replay was a no doubter. The announcers acknowledged the refs handed Duke a "huge break" but then moved on with no further mention of it. Short of a reasonable explanation emerging, I actually believe it was reversed as a battlefield concession to Scheyer and the Blue Devils. For all the media folks that have implied that Duke got the short end of a physical game and how it was officiated, someone of import should really answer for that Roach to Proctor reversal. That's the officiating headline of this game imho.

On top of that he was in Aidoo's cylinder when the contact occurred as evidenced in your pic.

c. The space that a player may legally occupy is defined by an imaginary cylinder surrounding the player, which extends from the floor to as far above the player as he can jump or extend his arms and body. The diameter of the cylinder shall not extend beyond the hands/arms on the front (the arms bent at the elbow), the buttocks on the back and the legs on the sides. These dimensions may vary according to the height and size of the player.

Barnes postgame conference he stated the ball is considered part of the hand, therefore the foul on Santi was legit. Case closed.
So, how come when the hand is considered a part of the ball, no foul is called when the hand is hit on a shot, but is a clean block? Don’t buy it. I think the refs thought the kid got knocked down by an elbow and could not undo the foul on review.

Don’t forget the foul on Uros on the three. The next trip down the floor, the exact same thing happened to JJJ and no call.

All that said, the game was called “loose”. I don’t ever remember is only having 3 fouls in a half. At one point against Louisiana, we had 3 in 30 seconds. But it seemed to be fairly even until Duke had to start fouling at the end.
