With goins leaving

Who do we have next season, that can break a tight full court press, without passing. I don't see any returning guards, that can dribble past a top notch guard, with quick hands.
Anyone on the roster can do what Melvin has done this year. What a waste of time and energy!

Golden will be fine he is a freshman, relax.

You tube Chris Jones highlights, he reminds me of florida's ervin walker. He can drive to the basket or shoot the long range jumper. Should be the best PG Pearl has recruited.

I dont know how well Kevin Ware's jump shot is, but from his highlights he is a guard that will drive straight to the basket and slam.

Next year, the team will be smaller but more athletic. Should get more scoring off the bench. The only missing piece with be a quality big man.

Goins can play great D sometimes but any point guard that can distribute and/or score will be an upgrade. He just doesn't distribute.

Someone mentioned Tobias to the NBA - no way. His shot will be blocked every time. I've noticed that he struggles against athletic post defenders.

Of course he isn't - but he's not sticking around if Pearl isn't here next season.

He is a smart kid. He might not have a legitimate option. He has shown enough holes in his game that if he comes out this year he will not be drafted anywhere near where he wants to be. You really think he would leave early if he is going to get drafted at the end of the first round? Cost himself millions of dollars just because he likes Pearl so much he doesnt want to stay without him here?

He'll be drafted no later than mid-first round if he comes out. Some people still think he's a borderline lottery pick. He has a legitimate option - Hopson is the one that may not have the legitimate option after this season.

He's not staying here if Pearl is fired - there is no if, ands, or buts about it unless we hire someone insane before the deadline to declare for the draft. It's not that he likes Pearl so much - but he did not come to Tennessee to play for some loser, 2nd or 3rd rate coach who only got the job because the half decent coaches were scared away by the NCAA sanctions/potential post season bans/scholarships loses/or probation. Of course I could see deciding to stay if we somehow landed the Mizzou coach - but the thing is - if we have a job opening - it's because the hammer was dropped on us pretty hard and he'd be stupid to leave Mizzou for Tennessee whose roster is starting to fall apart and who will also be owned by the NCAA.

Anybody claiming he is a borderline lottery pick needs to have their player evaluator privileges revoked. Even mid-1st round pick is a big stretch. He is a very good basketball player for a freshman in college. I am not on here complaining about him. But NBA teams do not use high picks on tweener forwards with no range of his shot, average athleticism, and very lackluster defense. Right now you can compare him to Tyler Smith (who is not even in the league), only Smith was a little more athletic.

No it isn't - there are several that still think he could be a lottery pick - and most guys think he'll be a better pro next year than he was a freshman in college - and that his game translates better into the NBA.. saying we aren't using his abilities right and forcing him to play out of position. He's not a primary back to the basket player.

With Goins leaving, what we need is a PG who can pass through a press, not dribble through it. You don't dribble through a full court press. And Tobias is staying 2 years, everyopne chill out. There was a New York Times article a couple weeks ago where they said that his dad has a plan for him to stay 2 years and leave for the NBA after next season

Yeah - that's assuming Pearl is still our coach.

I think he'll stay 2 years regardless. He doesn;t need the money, and his Dad is very strict about what he thinks his son should do to further his basketball career. The guyu played in the NBA, he knows what it takes

And I guarantee his dad doesn't think that playing under some third rate sucker who only got the job because no one decent would take the job, is the best option for.Tobias.

you gotta be real... He's not going to stay around to play for the buzz petersons of the world.

Hamilton should be fired if anyone mistakes our next coach for Buzz.

If our program is on a several year probation, loss of scholarships, and a multiple year post season ban.... Then yeah I wouldn't expect to get anyone worth a damn.

Tobias and his dad chose UT to play under a specific system - one in which he could be a point forward - and Pearl's system allows for that. If second or third rate coach comes along, you're right, Tobias isn't staying and no one should blame him.

Eh, we more than likely wouldn't get a proven coach at this level but a solid up and comer, like a Greg Marshall, would certainly entertain an offer. Essentially, all the work that Pearl did to get us to this point may be erased.

The program won't get hit that hard.
